Matt I edited my post while you were commenting because I realized my original comments were from a guy doing the passing.
Appendix P states if the other driver is even with your car and on the inside you have to cede the corner. So according to the revised guidelines the Aston driver is responsible.
EDIT yes had the Merc stuffed it up the inside just as the Aston turned in then the Merc would be responsible.
I can't tell how much overlap there was prior to turning in either of those videos. First video it looked like the driver was fully aware of your presence so I'm inclined to believe that you had some overlap that led to a textbook pass.
That second video looked.... sketchy. I'll take your word for it that it was above board, but it looks like he was inches away from having all four in the dirt.
If you look at the laps before the pass you'll see my lines vary. I was faster down the straights and was purposely slowing for a split second so the FV driver couldn't get a run on me. That corner is two 90s that are one big double apex corner, I slowed just before the car rotated into to the second apex and he had hung back just enough to keep his momentum. I saw the top of his roll hoop out the passenger side window and knew I'd been done for and gave him barely enough room to squeeze past.
Post race he mentioned he was thinking "I sure hope he sees me" and I replied "as wide as I was making the car it's obvious I knew exactly were you were at" We both laughed.
There are drivers in this group that I would never ever ever race this way with because they either lack the ability or judgement to race this close without contact.

I hope you understand that I support your position 100% That's what our braking really is. Taking away the line. Yes I agree that you have to know who you are racing to pull this off cleanly.
Let's be honest there. There are some Nobs out there. Focused only on themselves and fail to be aware of those around them. Even if your front is ahead of them at the apex they can fail to see you.
But if someone is really dicing with you they should be required to see you passing them on the inside.
That's not the time to bury your head in the instrument panel or start sight seeing.
