If you wanted a K20 with the 6spd and all the swap goodies where would you look? The US model appears to be 200-220 HP and the JDM version appears to be 220 also so I'm not sure what the point of the JDM swap would be except every importer has three complete swaps sittin there. Any thoughts?

Edit: this is the civic si/ Acura RSX power plant.

The US versions never had more than 210hp, so if you want more the JDM 220hp Type R version is the one to get. Pricey though. hmotorsonline.com has the best reputation for clean/no broken parts/no issues on startup that I've heard but they're a bit higher priced. You're looking $4-5k for a complete change over from them.

Personally I think the K24 is a better deal. http://www.hmotorsonline.com/shop/sc2000search.cgi?what=page&item=30034

You want... K20a K20a2 K20z1 K24a2 Stay away from the k20a3 it doesn't have real vtec, and the bottom end is low compression and a lot weaker than the rev happy engines listed above. You can swap around stuff like cams from the tsx k24 into the k20z3 for some solid gains, there's a ton of info and dyno sheets for whatever engine you pick

I believe the JDM Type R transmission is the only K-series trans offered with a factory LSD. It also has shorter gears.

Rsx-s and 8th civic si had beautiful helical LSD 6speeds

The US Spec RSX-S didn't have an LSD, but you're right about the 8th gen Si. Forgot about that.

Don't forget that you can convert the 5-speed transmissions to 6 speed for about $200 in factory parts. Might save you a little cash in the end.

Not exactly nothing...

Isn't the K24 3" taller, I want to be able to put the engine cover on.

the block is taller, you'll still be able to fit a k series valve cover on the k24.

Yeah it's only about an inch taller. I used one in my mid-engine Midlana project because I wanted the torque.

which engine cover? spark plug cover? intake manifold cover? spark plug cover would still work from any K-series motor, intake manifold cover would work only with the corresponding intake manifold.

The type r k series is very expensive, i personally think you get more bang for your buck if you source a type r k20 head, and build the k24 block from the ground up. I heard the weakpoints on some k24 varients are the rod bearings. There are many of the shelve parts for the k24 and it would be a very reliable setup if done right.

I come from a background of K-series motors and as long as you stay with OEM Honda bearings, you'll reduce the amount of parts that can go wrong.

An inch height difference shouldn't be a big deal; that will fit under the cover fine. K24 short blocks seem to be half the price of the K20; is there a reason for that?

I think its because the k20 is usually sold as a complete and expensive motor swap, especially the japanese varient, the k24 comes in many econo cars, this may be a shot in the dark but the k series might have sleeves at 2.0 liters, i dont think k24 have sleeves. Thats why you hear some guys making 400+ horsepower on stock blocks turbo. Any honda guys please correct me if im wrong
