The Porsche 924 Turbo folks are unhappy....

I want a 968 simply because it has the tiptronic making it so the wife could drive it. IT is also a bigger car that is a quasi 4 seater with a hatch making it a bit more practical than a boxster. Don't get me wrong boxsters are great cars but a 968 would fit my needs / family much better.

What I really want is a 928s4 or gts with a standard. A true supper car from its time. I know for a fact that the 928's were way under rated. I got to take one on the autobahn in Germany and I exceeded the advertised limit of that car by quite a bit and it wanted to keep on going (1987 928s4 standard trans) That car was absolutely the coolest thing I have ever driven. Around town it was a mild manner German muscle car but put it on the open road and let it stresch its legs and is just shined. What I really liked was at about 100KPH the suspension would hunker down in to go fast mode. It is another car that is on "the list".

Should be no big deal to own one. They come out of Japan all the time for peanuts, bought by people who have no idea of what your pet porky cost to keep running.

Gotta say, that sounds like a lot of the people who bought them in the US as well..easy to find, but hard to find a good one.

Finding a good one is the problem. Most have got to that point where the "required" maintenance has been skimped on. A classic case of get a cheap one and spend another .. . . Many thousands of dollars to bring it back to date in its service as well as the usual clutch and TT bearing replacement that will be coming due in these cars.

I don't know any car (my 924s included) that better exemplifies the feeling that when it is driving rite all the pain and agony of fixing/repairing it seem to just go away.

You know, I just saw a Tip 968 for sale. Check the Orlando craigslist. I think that's where I saw it.

Just pointing out that the Tiptronic was also available in the 911 range at the time. That would be the 964 for those that speak Porsche. I would not recommend a Tip for a sports car, but if that third pedal is wife-prohibited it might make a decent option. I would expect that Tip-equipped cars would sell for cheaper than a manual tranny car.

You could do a Tip Boxster for about that kind of money.

Sounds like the wife needs to learn the ways of the third pedal.

I'm just going to be slightly fanboi-ish and giggle about what a fantastic value these cars represent right now.

I picked up a fully prepped and nationally competitive 944-Spec '88 924S for about what it would cost to convert my Miata into a spec racer. And I now get to race with a super-nice group of guys who the tech inspectors don't assume that the winning car is bending the rules. And I get to brag that I race a Porsche!

Never brag about your Porsche!!!!! The great god of money will come and slap you down. (or at least lighten your wallet) I find ignoring my car and only feeding it when I have to and never telling it about any other car I drive seems to keep it happy. It is kind of like telling your wife about your mistress. You can do it but it will cost you! My 924s seems to be the same way.

Bragging about your Porsche is like bragging about your wife she will feel entitled to something "nice" and it will cost you!!!! My car seems to think the same way. I talk good things about it and the next thing you know it needs tires or new bushings or some other go fast part. Really praise it and clutches seem to give up the ghost. I ware my car actually knows I am talking about it. Then there is when you are on the track. Put my car in the wrong place and it will bitch and complain. Drive it correctly and it is the nicest most well mannered car there is. Does this remind you of anything?

$7,500, that seems cheap for a 968 even if it's hobbled with an autotragic.

924's and 944's are hatchback and they do have fold down rear seats.....

this ones a 944, there also versions done based on 924's, 931's, and 928's by DP and a few others. the dp 911 shot is a bonus, too tired to crop...

I tend to agree with one of the posters above. Seemed very fluffy. I guess longer technical articles aren't "in" these days

That 944 wagon is pretty awesome. Something about it just works for me. I also like how slammed it is.
