So now you've got several companies offering fuel injection setups for v8s at a remarkable price point.

A couple:

Does anyone have experience with these? Makes me consider throwing the old carb in the can.

I installed a FiTech TBI system on the 351 Cleveland in my ‘69 Cougar summer 2017.  Glad I made the switch.

Fingers crossed I will like the FITECH I bought for the 302 in the Molvo. Not running yet.

I've been running Fitech on a 70 Charger with a 440 for the last three years.

Love it. Exhaust doesn't smell like fuel anymore, mid range throttle response is greatly improved, and it makes for a much more pleasant vehicle to drive overall.

The only problem I ever had was with high engine bay temps cooking the fuel in the return line, and burning up my first fuel pump.

I highly recommend running an intank fuel pump with a return line to mitigate this. Route the fuel lines away from all sources of heat.  And I highly recommend an in tank pump. A submerged pump runs cooler, and is much quieter.

All in all, it's one of the best mods I've ever done. I'll never run another carb again.

I’m very seriously leaning towards a Holley Sniper system for my challenge car next winter post challenge.

I installed one Sniper kit  and it really is a "KIT" with practically everything you need, down to a fuel pump blockoff plate.  And it works as advertised.

Not sure why the font smallerfied, that was unintentional.

Thanks. Going on a tangent here, I live in a very “green” area. The vehicle that I’m considering adding the efi to currently has dual side pipes with glass packs. By running a Sniper or similar, would I be able to replace the glass packs with cats and not have them clog up in a thousand miles?

In reply to Kreb :

Yes, although this is also dependent on other factors, like cam timing.

It's a SBC with a mild torque cam in it. Don't know the specs.

If it idles without any significant lope, it will be fine.  What slags cats is unburnt fuel and air, such as from an ignition misfire or a nice hot cam.  It overwhelms the converter and melts it down, especially if you have one with a ceramic substrate and not one of the nice expensive stainless steel substrates.

Just remember Throttle Body injection is only sticking it in half way, and only eliminates the carb not all the evils.

Port injection is way way better. Better fuel distribution, no wetted wall issues, fuel laden air is heavier, etc.

My experiences with Holley and Edelbrock injection have been dismal at best. I have no trust of their products.

I agree, port fuel injection is superior, but IMO these hit the sweet spot in between that and a carb.

I've been considering one if I repower my GMT400. It's already a TBI from the factory, and the tuneability would allow me to add some changes like heads, cam, or more displacement.

Have to have cruise control, though.

In reply to Floating Doc :

Cruise in that timeframe was external to the PCM (or really, it was an ECM...) so you should be fine.

The market for people who will take on a port injection conversion is miniscule compared to that of the one that will do a throttle body conversion. Also, the improvement from what is most likely a carb that has never been tuned properly ( cause who knows how anymore?) is dramatic enough to impress.

What is driving the market for the FITECH and Sniper is the word of mouth from people who have done it successfully and encourage others to follow; that critical mass of happy customers never happened with the port injection kits even though they are "better".

The first fast ezefi throttle body had TONS of issues. I did a couple of them.

The msd has been flawless in both that i have installed.

Had all these been on the market when i went down the megasquirt hole, the duster would have been done years ago.

My take is, do it. Just not with fast.

In reply to NOHOME :

The Sniper was literally bolting the throttle body on to where the carb was, threading in some sensors, runnin like five or maybe six wires.  The hard part was the fuel system since they specify 3/8 line and the sending units had 5/16.  So I unsoldered the pickup, drilled it, soldered in a 3/8 pickup, stuck a Hydramat on the end, and brazed a return line in the tank because that was the only way to do it.

It literally fired up and settled into a smooth idle within 5 seconds of cranking.  It relies heavily on the wideband but so does FAST XFI.
