You know I'm all for GRM fabrication, but helmets strike me as something where at-home, DIY modification is really not a good idea...

Agreed! Unfortunately, this new requirement is not user friendly. I did not come up with ideas for modification. They were suggested by racers out there doing what they need do to to make them work.

This isn't the first time updating safety requirements to maintain an income stream for the manufacturers has worked out poorly for the users.

I just want a helmet that fits and won't make my head explode. Why does this need to be so hard? My old one fits great! Make me a new one like that!

Interesting comparison between the RaceQuip (left) and the Pyrotect (right).

I bought the RaceQuip because I do some light autocrossing and I liked the way it fit my odd-shaped head. The poster of the photo liked the Pyrotect because it had more padding and the chin strap sat further forward, helping prevent roll off.

So agin, try them on if you can, but everything that I have seen confirms that the more you pay, the better helmet you will get.
