Can you also give an example or two of the 10Hz GPS receivers. Through Google the prices were all over the place.
At this point there's no real reason to not get the racebox mini. The cheap 10hz receivers are wildly unreliable and the nicer ones aren't cheap enough to justify them over 25hz and real accelerometers from the racebox. I upgraded this year after limping along the ubiquitous cheap qstarz receiver for years and my only regret is that I held out this long.
Yeah it's easy to make these smartphone-based data logging systems cost almost as much as a standalone data logger that is vastly superior, so there's a pretty small price/feature butterzone where they make sense. I like Autosport Labs' Race Capture systems as a good value-for-money option, all libre software too.
