I'd buy that , hell the only thing i'm not a fan of in vintage 911's are the air cooled 6. The 350 ain't that great and the side scoops have to go but i'd most likely patch the quarters, swap in a junkyard 5.3 with a carb and drive the wheels off of it.

In reply to Woody:

I had a chance to buy an identical 912 for ~$5k about 10-years ago, but didn't have the money. My dentist owns it now, and has put the money/work into making it damn nice, which is more than I could have done with it it.

911 prices have gone way up over the past five years and they dragged 912 prices right up with them. The secret's out and 912s are no longer overlooked as they once were.

911 prices have gone nuts. I"ve been a 911 fan for years. Go back 15 years and you could get a nice driver long hood (not S) for $10k. GRM even did a 'Porsche's for $10k' article in the early noughties and the only 911 they had was a long hood E!!! As for the SC's and 3.2C's, 5 years ago you could get a nice DD SC for $8-10k and a good G50 3.2 for $15. Now good SC's are mid 20's. But that's nothing compared to 356's. My neighbour just sold his Pre A 356 for enough to buy a house having paid $15k for it in 1999. Now that's a return on investment. The car went to Japan and it broke his hart to sell it. Still, it paid a lot of bills and he just bought a 'driver' SC for $20k.

964's have long been the red headed step child of the 911 family, but they seem to be really taking off too. Even 944's seem to be getting on the band wagon. Good cars seem to have gone from $3k to $5k over the last couple of years.

Absolutely no doubt the 996 and 986 cars are the bargains right now. High numbers and IMSB scares have killed the values. Now that cheap IMSB fixes are DIYable and people are starting to re-build engines at home, the scary part of the equation has gone.

Agreed.

These are attractively priced for what you get vs. the steady climbing entry point on the older cars.

My neighbor picked up a lovely 50k mile 2001 996 coupe last Fall. Since I'm not crass/classless, I didn't ask what it cost, but it replaced a Volvo S60R (IIRC). It had the IMSB fixed, so he's good to go.

There's a lot of 996 hate out there, but I've always like them.

996s are about the only 911s that are still depreciating. I'd guess he didn't pay much. For a Carrera 2, $25,000 is too much.

I'll add a vote for "looks like a hoot for $10k".

I don't know jack about classic 911's, but small car + V8 doesn't sound like a bad thing to me. If it already has an old chevy 350, wouldn't swapping that out for a LSx be slightly easier? Even more power, with even less weight in a tiny package.
