I think that's the least of my worries lol. The plugs aren't that hard to change, but other items create nightmares.

heh, yeah, I meant it more as a symbol of what you're getting into.

a friends shop picked one up on the cheap and have been doing ok w/ it. they ended up getting an auction parts car and it's helped for some of the rarer parts (vacumn pump for door locks or something like that??).

Picking the beast up in a couple of hours, then I'll start on the list of needs/wants/etc....and probably shred a little tire while I'm at it. What good is a 4600lb barge with 500hp if it can't do a sweet burnout?

Other than the coil packs, they seem pretty damned reliable. - leaking ABC hoses aside - but those are just hydraulics.

Color me jealous.

I've put a few hundred miles on it since Friday and I REALLY like it. The miles were a combination of city and highway and my average pulling onto work this morning was 18MPG, which seems great for such a big car with so much power. I do have a punchlist:

Purchase SDS (Star diagnostic system). IMO this is critical in living with a complicated aging benz like this....you can test/troubleshoot everything down to the light in the cigarette lighter.

Fix minor cosmetics like a cracked blinker lens and do a very thorough detailing.

Replace the ABC accumulators. I think the front may be on it's way out, but would like to run the diagnostics on the whole system first. These have a 10 year life expectancy and if I'm going to do one I might as well do them all since I'll need to flush and bleed the system anyway.

Front pads and rotors, either replace or resurface. Front rotors are slightly warped.

So far that's my list, which is pretty small considering the price of the car etc. We'll see how it goes as I drive it more, but as it stands right now I'm a huge fan. Once I really go through it and fix the things on my list I'll probably get a tune, then the fun really starts.

Also, it looks to have every option minus the side curtains. Options are:

Distronic

Parktronic

keyless go

heated steering wheel

Surprisingly, they deleted the first aid kit when ordering.

I plan on STAR being my first major purchase, so I'll get an email out to you soon. I'd like to get your thoughts on the particular system I'm looking at.

So I'm 2k miles in and I love this thing. I have a commute that is slightly over 100 miles round trip and this not only makes it bearable, but even enjoyable, and I'm returning 18-18.5 mpg which is more than I expected. I still pretty much split my commute between this and the k1300s, but I've got to say I prefer the benz on most days.

I did get a coil error one day while at wot, it was for the number 12 cylinder. I pulled over and cleared it and all was back to normal, then I floored it again and at full tilt it threw the same code again. I cleared it again, drove the car the next day, and it hasn't come back since after quite a few full throttle runs. That being said I feel that the coils for that cylinder are more than likely on their way out. It has a coil pack per bank, with 12 coils per pack. Thanks to the internet these can now be replaced individually, but I plan to be proactive and go ahead and have both banks rebuilt at $700 per bank (new are 1300+ per bank), then replace the 24 plugs while I'm in there. I already bought the plugs for a little over $200 (NGK iridiums). When I have time, or if the coil code starts coming back frequently, I'll pull the coil packs off and send them out. I did find a great diy thread on one of the Mercedes forums for R&R of the packs and it looks to be an easy job.

I have dealer documentation showing one bank of coils was replaced at 77k miles and the other at 81k miles, so it looks like this genuine Mercedes set lasted a little over 50k.

Once the fresh coils and plugs are in I will order either the Eurocharged or Kleemann tunes for the car.
