Vs. Greatest Spec Series

Well, it sure isn't Spec Neon or Spec Focus, two series that should have been the cheapest form of road racing. It just proves that no matter how inexpensive the car, if they aren't fun to drive no one is going to care.

I race Spec E30 so I have a bias, but chose it because it had many of the same attributes of Spec Miata without all the carnage. The only problem with it is the donors are becoming a bit harder to come by for really cheap prices. Some of our guys are moving to SE46 but I personally see no advantage to it.

Off road racing is something I've always wanted to try but it simply doesn't exist where I live.

How do you figure that either a Neon or a Focus are not fun to drive. Both are a riot. they may not have a badge like 'Miata', 'BMW' or 'Porsche', ubt boring doesn't describe either of them.

does B Spec count?

Really? No love for the SRF here? A used, competitive car ready to race can be had for $17k. A solid runner needing a refresh for $12k. You can run them for four years before you need a fresh sealed motor (~4k) to stay in the front or practically forever if you don't mind fighting for 10th. Tires are reasonable and last a couple weekends. All the parts are available and reasonable if you bend it. It's a tube chassis/glass shell with real racing parts for suspension so can be repaired easily from almost any crash and has plenty of adjustment for setup junkies. The cars are fun to drive single seaters with your knob out in the fresh air so you don't need cool suits and netting or complex fire systems, defoggers, wipers, windshields or any of that crap. Faster than SM, SE30, etc. but slow enough that you can drive the ever-lovin' E36 M3 out of them at the limit all day long in traffic. The fields are some of the largest in the country. They are small and light so you don't need a huge garage or a massive truck to get them to the races.

We should all be racing them. I've been on that fence for years. I am really close to selling off the BMW(s) and simplifying my world. It's the only option I'm considering because we don't have spec Lotus7 clone racing here in any real numbers.

Spec Neon/Focus, boring. Sorry. I have no interest in driving a FWD crapcan. gasp Some people just don't like soft, FWD low-powered cars, I guess that is why there are more than just one Spec Class ;)

I just sold off my GTS2 car to go Spec E46. It is pricier than E30/miata but has more power, better shocks, and is basically going to be GTS-lite.

I would be in a "real race car" SRF or F2000 or the similar if I didn't hate SCCA. NASA is just too much fun, and I race for fun.

I agree on Spec Racer Fords. They're fun to drive and built like tanks.

+2 on SRF. If I could sell my ITA Miata and have enough to buy a nice SRF I would.
