that was one of the first "old" cars I wanted... one came up on CL a little while back and I had to stop by and check it out... I can deff see a subbie powered one being AWESOME :)

Damn you. This one is less than a half hour from me, and I'm going to be there Sunday. Damn you.

I've got one.

Kinda. All the '62s and the '63-'65 base models had a single side draft carb, the '63-'65 "S" models and all '66-'67 had dual solex carbs, and '68-up were fuel injected. The '68 was actually the worlds first production car to come standard with electronic fuel injection.
The first car I ever drove was a RHD Type 3 fastback. I was 13, so don't ask me for driving impressions They do have a trunk at both ends, which is great for screwing with the minds of your 13-year-old friends as you play "find the engine".
You want to know about hopping them up, and maybe finding one? Check out Kustom Coach Werks here in Grand Junction. Watch out for the galleries, they will suck you in. There is some crazy aircooled VW stuff roaming the streets of our little town. And there are a surprising number of Type 3s.
This might be a good read on subie power. http://speedhunters.com/archive/2010/01/31/car-feature-gt-gt-the-subynotch.aspx
Keith clicking your link consumed an hour of my life!!!
When I was a kid I had a square back and loved the looks of it but it wasn't a great car.....Then again I just bought an 88 Ford Ranger so don't trust my jugement:-)
In reply to Nitroracer:
That's way cool, but the engine sits impractically low, (even after he cut down the sump.) I'd want to raise the ride height, and maybe run some kind of protective shield.
