SWMBO's XJ40. I think it's a 93.
4.0ltr. Didn't know she'd scored the big engined car until I popped the hood.
Lo digs it..
144K, and the family friendly price of $1500. I think she knows she stole it.

WOW. That's a pretty car. Not the MOST reliable thing in the world... but cool nonetheless, and it looks like she did quite well on the purchase.
Hardest thing so far? Keeping Logan from stomping all over these fine English hides. He's used to climbing through the truck to his seat from any door (or even the tailgate), and doesn't yet understand why we're making him use the same door every time.

Is it because the other one doesn't work?
I kid I kid!
Nice looking ride. I've always though about rollin one of those. I hear they don't get the best gas mileage however.. can you confirm or deny?
I remember the Connelly leather in my aunt's '85 XJ-S V12 HE still smelled intoxicating when it was put out to pasture a couple of years ago (~80k miles at the time--car had some catastrophic failure--traded for $1500 IIRC on a new Accord). She was the only owner--I took it to my prom in '90--baller.
I hope your Jag smells the same. I also hope it skips the catastrophic failure. Looks like you got a primo example.
...now let's see what Edd thinks of it
Those cars are awesome. I had one briefly with fold down wood trays on the back of the front seats and heated mirrors. Very pimp!

She Who Must Be Obeyed...
I know one of those....
Nicely bought!
I see quite a few of these still on the road over here, so I figure they must be pretty reliable.

I haven't checked the one on the left (I "left" the next day to go work turns at the ARRC), but there's another one on the right that seems to be the cruise control.

ROFL! I hope so..it's got a bit of smoke (yeah, oil) on startup. I suspect the valve seals are a little dry from not being started very often. I'm gonna let her drive it for a couple of weeks and see if they swell back up with a little regular use. Ol' monster runs good, though. No NVH troubles-we've both had to look at the tach at a stoplight to make sure it's still running). Seems like it's got a warped brake rotor somewhere, though (y'all know what those feel like).

I recall reading in Car and Driver in the mid 1980s that John Egan (CEO of Jag at the time) was pretty stoked that the XJ40 series was the first Jag in a long time that had no "car-stoppers" on the top ten list of initial delivery problems.

I know it's been less than a week, but I tend to confirm. But her other ride is a 93 Olds Bravada, so it's not quite the shock it would seem. It ain't exactly like she just climbed out of a Civic and started burning so much of the stuff. The Jag might actually be getting better fuel economy than the Bravada, but it wants premium. They seem to be costing about the same so far..
