Audi changed WRC and racing with the AWD Quattro. I wonder how long they would have dominatied Trans AM if they hadn't been banned.

Will wrote: Nissan GTP IMSA racer. So awesome. 1967 Mercury Cougar Trans Am spec. Come on, a Bud Moore racing Merc! IRL Oldsmobile/Dallara. I believe it won every race it entered. If Infiniti ever won a race I missed it. +1 on the Plymouth Superbird in Petty livery. Jaguar D-type. Prettiest racecar ever? Audi R8. Incredibly dominant. Chevrolet C5R and/or C6R GT1. Chased everything else out of the class.
Eddie Cheever won at least a couple races with the Infiniti. I think his Indy victory was with an Aurora. That was a cool victory, whitewalled the right side tires twice running a qualifying line in the last 17(?) laps. "2nd was not an option." he said. I liked the "stock block" rules back then. The blocks were not stock but the bore centers and bolt holes, etc. were. People like Jack Roush, Ed Pink and Speedway were building the engines their own way, unlike today's leased Hondas.
+2 on the Superbird. And the previously mentioned Daytona Charger. The Ford Talledaga too. Anything in Petty Blue, lol!
1972 1st tube frame and macpherson strut front end in pro stock. Please don't tell Bill I used his picture, lol!
Bugatti T35B
Cobra Daytona Coupe
ALFA-Romeo 8C (the original 2300 series)
MG Midget (original type, such as K3 Magnette)

Group B Rally cars... pretty much all of them
The Eagle F1 car
BMW E30 M3 Evo
Cortina
60s era Alfa GTVs
Ferrari 312PB
Ford GT40
Riley and Scott MKIII
Ferrari F2002
I have to agree with all the others, like the Ferrari 333sp, McLaren MP4/4, Audi R8 (Bentley Speed8), Group B rally cars...
How about the Ford 999? It was part of the stories of Henry Ford and Barney Oldfield. Pretty darn influential!
Since we're on the topic of trucks.. Ivan Stewart's baja Toyota truck..
One essential rally car has been left out. Lancia Delta Integrale. It won every WRC crown from 87 through 92!
I know it's been said, but it's one of my all-time favorites -- Nissan GTP:
How about this Jim Hall brainchild?
The F U we know what we're doing.. and that's beating you list.
Clessie Special 139mph at the brickyard... turbo failure ended her run in 1952...
To all the h8ters.... It's really not a truck...
Old yeller..2 and 1
I can't make any logical argument that this Forsgrini is in any way one of the top 25 race cars of all time. I can argue that it is one of my favorites, and has to rank higher than a Honda Ridgeline.
Lotus 11
Lots of good mentions so far. Here's what I might add to the list:
The Nissan GTPs were cool, but the Toyota Eagle MkIII basically killed the series:
And Audi rally cars? Sure, fine. But that's a little passé. "Ooh, an AWD car won a rally. Big whoop." But when they went sports car racing, everyone else noticed, too:
Ford Mustang GTP:
I would also throw in the following: Corvette Challenge Spec Miata Porsche 911 GT2
jg
My adds: Mclaren M8B-the car that started the demise of CanAm Shadow DN4-nothings cooler than an all black racecar Greenwood Spirit Corvettes-weren't good on the finishing thing, but they were fast and mean. Corvette GTP Mustang GTP Porsche 962 Corvette C5R-C6R-already been mentioned several times, but greatness is greatness. any top fueler driven by Don Garlits Bob Glidden and his Motorcraft Tbird prostocker John Force's Funny Cars
Granted not all of the cars on my list were dominant, but they are some of my favorites. A bunch of the rest have already been mentioned.
