When I saw Dyno Don, the Grump, Wally Booth and others at York US30 around 75 or 76, Dyno was the only one rowing a crashbox 4 speed when the others had advanced to Lencos. If it wasn't this car, it was one just like it.

Prewar Auto Unions

Any Porsche 962, I think they are still the most sucessful race car ever:
The Mercedes-Benz 300 SLR with Moss at the wheel:
This car did not do very well at all but I think it is one of the best looking F1 cars in recient history.
And finally the car that made me think, "You know, American cars aren't so bad after all" CTSV R
914-6 GT
Probably the most underappreciated production based race car from Porsche.
Awesome in car vids from very well done 914-6 GT restoration. Incredible for small displacement car.

Almost all the Porsches mentioned.
How specific? Just '911' or particular 911's?
how about the 250 GTO?
My second favorite to 914-6 GT is the Hakosuka Skyline GTR
Nice in car vid:

Everybody's already mentioned my favorite road racing cars. A couple of folks have mentioned some of the great Indycars..but so far everyone's forgotten the Novis.

That's a nice choice, but this is the JPS car really worth mentioning:

Close, but no cigar!
as an advertising student, this car is most significant as first F1 car with sponsorship, and as a race enthusiast, this car is most significant as first F1 car with MADS.

The FWD Novi's are covered in Brock Yates' "Against Death and Time". They had a reputation as cursed cars from the straight-in impacts against the Indy wall.
