My employer is tired of paying me a zillion dollars to drive the wheels off of the 5. The company car has to be a 4-door, and used. They are willing to work out some cool stuff though.
Ideas?
I'm in a tough pickle, because SWMBO's Grand Prix just cost us a E36 M3load of money: LED taillights (cheaper than OE's), new headlights, rotors/pads on all 4 corners, and now the A/C went out on her. Plus it has some deferred maintenance (oil or PS leak developed, gas gauge/sender doesn't work, needs tires). The 5 is getting brakes done tomorrow (rotors & pads on all four corners) and the stock clutch is getting weak. The Javelin needs, well, everything.
SWMBO wants a Mustang, but wants a 4-door to drive every day. She saw a 1st Gen (post-facelift) Mazda6 the other day and really liked it.
I don't know what to do. If works sends me home with a random 4-door (everybody else has an Impala or a Malibu, but they've G8's before) we'll have 4 cars at the house, and there's no way she'd let me bring home a 5th.
Dare I say, I'm actually considering selling the Javelin...
Why is this so difficult?
Anyways, cars?
Maxima for the 4 door?
I'd sell the Javelin. I'm not into old stuff that I don't have the money to make perform like new stuff, but I know you really dig it.
I may have found the magical loophole!!
If I can get the boss to approve this, then she'll probably stop pestering me for a Mustang! And we can AX together again.
Hmmm....
Evil plans afoot now.
yea they'll love paying for gas in that amirite?
but yes that is quite a loophole, 4 doors...you should still suggest it just to see what they say.
You are going about this all wrong. The ony requirements thay gave you are 4 door and used right? Will they be paying for gas and maintenance? What is the price cap? Assuming a cap of $10,000 just to keep things interesting I humbly submit the following:
Who pays the gas, you or the company?
I see that the others are all American sedans. Not knowing you business, is there any reason that an American badge would be required or preferred such as customers or brand image that should be "all American"?
In the other cars you mention all GM products. Is there a proclivity toward GM for this car too?
Take the G8 if you can get it!

If you really poke around, you might get lucky and find a driver grade 60 Cadillac 4 window flat top for 10k.
Cant beat a 59/60 flat top big GM.

Actually, highway mileage shouldn't be too bad, especially compared to the mid-size V6/autos they've got plowing around now. Plus it's cheap to buy in. $10K gets you the pick of the litter locally. $8K isn't unreasonable.
It's definitely going to be my first suggestion come Monday.

Dude, it's got to be like an 02-ish or newer. Granted, I landed our biggest new account of the year with the Javelin, but still.
In reply to JohnRW1621:
Company pays the gas. GM is a Pontiac/GM man and gets fleet sales, so that's why we have mostly those. Other company cars include a VW CC, a Lexus RX, a Honda Accord, and a Subaru Legacy. They're willing to work with me on something (they know I won't drive an auto without a V8).
If negotiations go crappy though, I'm seriously thinking Crown Vic Sport.

I present to you:
- 4 door: check
- 2002 -2003 or newer: check
- 10k and under: check (the nicest one locally is 12k for an immaculate car with 40k km on)
- interesting to drive: check
- makes you look good to customers: check
I rest my case your honor.
I like the XJR idea, but the most realistic I can think of a couple year old focus. I don't see asking an employer to pay for an RX8 turning out well, but who knows.
^ could be the answer.
Like the RX8 idea but just in case you can't get it through I submit this. 4-doors.
Actually have considered something like this myself to replace my RX8.

I like the Volkswagen CC.
See if they'll pick up the tab on a leftover Mazda2?

I really think you're looking at this the wrong way. Putting aside GRM funkiness for a minute, remember that you put your driving into the minor rant thread. You need to look something that is comfortable as your first priority. The obvious choices are the boring ones, so ignoring those:

Can't believe Javelin would consider selling the Javelin
Two words: Maserati Quattroporte!
If you get deferred maintenance I'd get a bmw 330 with the zhp package, or something else German that's fun to drive but sucks to maintain, might as well take advantage of the savings :)

Javelin used to be called P71, another car he sold...
In reply to Onetrillionrpm:
They cover maintenance, but by that they really mean oil changes and tires.
I'm thinking (in order):
Mazda RX-8
Neon SRT-4
Crown Vic Sport
Alternatively, have them buy/lease SWMBO's GP, buy her a Mustang with money, and let her have the Falcon, too. This could actually work really well...
RX-8 with the 19'' wheel option, then camber the living bazookas out of it.

If you are thinking Crown Vic, why not Mercury Marauder?
Javelin

I did. Can't find one within what they're willing to pay. :(
