The first picture has some weird photoshopping going on...it looks like they drew a wagon back end on a two door sedan - look at the back seat window frame.

As far as 'ruining' the car (assuming the second photo is real) - the wood grain appears to be stick on vinyl, so outside of a poor color choice and the whitewall tires it wouldn't be much work to bring it back to normal.

I thought the same thing, the sides of the car are diferent from each other. It appears to be a 3 door!? If you look through the side with the sedan looking rear window, you can see the "wing" window on the other side. Is there a 3 door BMW wagon?

Eh...to each their own....should at least have matching hubcaps on the passenger side.

I love it! I just sent this to a friend - he has a '63 Rambler convertible with the wide-whites on it, and his wife just got an E36 wagon. I told him they could have just compromised.

Someone has great photoshop skills. One giveaway is the "3 door" that others have noticed.

Ironically(?) I've found a 2000 Taurus wagon, real cheap, that I was thinking of having "wrapped" or air-brushed to look like a woody. I would never use those wide whites, but was considering using the vintage Ford wheel discs like this "car" sports.

Window mounted A/C. Keeps with the 50's theme.

Ah. Thanks.

They are called swamp coolers... and run of water only. They are big with the aircooled VW crowd.

Evaporative cooler is the more proper generic name.

Swamp cooler is a more pejorative term originating in the fact that they will increase the relative humidity to the point it feels like a swamp. The work really well in the desert, less well in "normal" climates, and terribly in coastal areas.

It is an old "air conditioning" unit. They would fill them with ice water and let the cold air blow in.
