At first I didn't like it, now I think it is growing on me but the angle of it coming off the window to the rollbar is weird still.

My buddy has one of these on his turbo 1.6. I've ridden in it a few times.

Honestly? As a hater of convertibles, i love it.

All the benefits of a convertible with none of the things i hate. (Sun, direct heat)

He has that and a hardtop. STRONGLY considering doing the same to my Miata, but i think SWMBO would kill me.

Love it, not as much as the fast back...but still fly!

I like them. I usually drive with the top up and window down in my miata. If I had a rollbar, I'd get one.

I'd consider it if I was taking my softtop out.

However, I can leave my back window unzipped and have the same effect without paying anything.

I had a "bikini" top on my Jeeps and loved them. I didn't want the sun overpowering the solar panel for my sex machine (my bald head) but liked the open air feel.

They actually make a version that doesn't require a rollbar.

Believe the company is "Project-G."

Anyone with a 1990-97 and a zippered top already knows they can drop the rear window and have a similar effect. Unfortunately, that's not an option with the later cars.

I think they're cool. Very useful around here, where the sun is vicious. Heck, Mazda thinks they're a good idea, they put one on their most recent SEMA concept.

Personally, I've been rocking one for years

See, this is why I don't buy a used miata. They only look cheap. First it's the car, then the roll bar, then this soft top, then the fast back hard top. We haven't even opened up the flying miata catalog and gotten silly yet. I'm convinced a miata would ruin me. As to the original question, yea, I like it, I like it a lot.

you are so right, I started an excel spreadsheet with everything i want and it is well over 10k and that was just from memory.

I like it in concept, but it doesn't work in practice—at least not in Florida. We have freak rainstorms in the middle of bright, sunny days. I couldn't risk it. When I replace this aftermarket top though, I'll be sure I get one with a zippered window. I've heard they're great.

If the car is moving you won't get rain inside. Parked then yeah it might be a problem.

The same goes for just having the top down.

Same here. Guess I need to go back to working on my SE-R, where one can quickly exhaust the aftermarket. There's just no end to the cool stuff you can slap on a Miata. Left to my own devices, and without SWMBO oversight, I could quickly accessorize this thing into Porsche money.

I have thought of building one from a ruined soft top.

Right. I park outside at work. I don't want to come out in the afternoon to an inch of water in my footwells, drowning my ECU.

I originally saw this thing on Sharka, and the guy lives in New Mexico. Makes sense there.

I have a zip-out rear window on mine, and it's perfect. I love having the top down, but on a long highway drive or on a really hot/sunny day, having the top up but all three windows open creates the perfect balance.

I have a rear zip out on mine (robbins top), but it is a PITA to get the zipper around the back of some straps involved with the top.

Ouch, went and checked out the Project G site.

Am I off in thinking it seems a bit pricey, especially since I have to hack up the soft top to install it?

This. If it's not raining, the top is down. A/C may be on, but the top is down. If it's stupid hot, then maybe the top is up and sealed, with the A/C on. But that's it - Miata is either sealed or open. Maybe if I lived in Arizona, but not here in the northeast.

That's why Isaac Newton invented the baseball cap - to keep the sun out of my eyes so I can enjoy my Miata.

I had a similar design in mind when I had my S2000 CR (no softtop). I had a cockpit cover that covered the windshield for when I parked. Kept out light rain and bird poo. But it wasn't good for driving.

A couple of times I wish i had that during a light rain while driving and I couldn't move fast enough (traffic). There were also times that I left the hard top on because I couldn't risk the 1 hour storm that was supposed to happen in the middle of the day of running errands.

It's a product for a niche market - people who gut their soft tops but still street drive.
