Subaru 1600 of 1978 era.  Also know as the Subaru DL.  Offered in coupe, hatch, sedan and wagon

Correction, probably a 1970 Subaru FF1 which was the tiny successor of the Subaru360 but before the Subaru GL.  

Still some slight variation in tail lamps but trunk trim is correct.

IIRC those had inboard front brakes.

 

Might also be known as a Star.

Looks like the kind of Subaru that Satch Carlson used to complain about all the time. Those were the days when Subarus lasted forever but required that forever to get anywhere.

Last tag on it appears to be 1977 so John seems to be correct.

Edit: The plate was only available in 1976 and could be renewed in 77 & 78. It is being made available in 2026 for the US sesquicentennial.

I had a secretary back in the day who owned a Subaru DL.  I rode in it a few times, but it didn't make much of an impression on me.

It remains to be seen if i buy it or not. Its one of two cars i will end up owning if i buy a piece of property they are on. If you think the cars are in bad shape, you should see the house...
