I would be all over a Miata with an MGB GT style permanent roof. But it would have to come in around $ 35k Cnd and the current Miata in Canada  already sells for $42k, so that aint gonna happen.

The other thing is I am about to hit 60 and I keep cars for 10 years. Sitting on a 6 year old FRS I am pondering what a 70 year old me is going to want to be driving since I will cross that line ( hopefully) with the next vehicle. I am thinking truck, as I see my post retirement years being occupied by house projects and that means hauling E36 M3. So, what I need is a convertible two seat pickup truck that can run track-days. And I need it in my driveway for $35k.

Those back seats were the difference between me buying an FRS and not even looking at a Miata because I can't put my dog in the Miata. I was afraid that if I drove one, though, I would have bought it anyways . A shooting brake, B GT style Miata that costs the same as the current ND would be perfect. 

Also, I'll take a small truck, or even an SUV, with a stick and turbo diesel 4 banger, that gets 25 mpg and can tow maybe 6k. And a modern El Camino, which would just be a rebadged Maloo.

I just rented a Challenger and loved it so: Magnum reboot/long-roof Charger with the 6-spd manual and any of the V8s. Even the 5.7L would be ok.

I think a rear-engined, rwd Beetle that had enough room around the engine etc. to actually perform future maintenance would sell. And of course, an awd, rear-engined Diesel version...

I want a RWD TSX wagon.  

Silverado SS.  A new one, 4 doors, since I require a newer GM Truck for work.  

I want a Miata in sub 3k lbs 4 door sedan form. The mental image is a new BMW E30 thats a Miata. 

Or an ATS 2.0T 1LE. 

People asked Ford to bring the Focus RS to the US, so they did and I bought one.  What's the problem?

Most of what is being asked for here is impossible to accomplish within the realms of safety and emissions and many of you need to adjust your desires accordingly.

Also, we all know full well that the enthusiasts market is a tough one to deal with and many don't even bother outside of tossing us a bone from time to time with some sporty "options" but developing an entire car or a special set of options for a handful of people who won't buy them when new is pretty much a good way to end up in Chapter 11.

I'm 62, never bought a new car, so I've got nothing to say. 

What would I want? More wagons. Had six, and since I tend to keep my cars for a decade, that's a lot. 

Solid roof Miata. Just bought my first one, NB with a hard top and no soft top. Taking the ht off next week to change the fuel pump, going right back on.

Agreed, its a great chassis, but you end up in SM or some such thing and don't have a chance.  It should be giving the FiST a run in HS.

I was looking at the Regal Tour at t he NY show last week.  I'm not sure what you mean about the Outback reference, other than the cladding around the wheel openings. The car doesn't have the higher stance like an Outback or even the Volvo V90 XC  The car on display was pure 100% wagon. My buddy (also a wagon nut) and I poured over that car twice.  Once when we first arrived, and then again as we were getting ready to leave.   Of all the cars we looked at, this one impressed us the most.  Might end up as my mother's next car.  

I have a few:

-Current Dodge Charger with a Hemi and a 6-speed manual. I mean, they offer that in the Challenger, which is based on the same chassis. This should be easy. Big sedans with sticks and RWD are the coolest. 

-An AWD competitor to the WRX that's not made by Subaru. Mazda, are you listening? Toss the CX-5 AWD in the 3, add turbo 2.5L from the CX-9/6, and there you go. Focus RS doesn't count... it's more aligned with the STI. 

-While on the subject of Mazda... Where's the Mazdaspeed line? Where's the MS3, MS6, etc? And where the hell is the US Mazda 6 Wagon????

-A reasonably priced Jeep pickup. I want the new one they say they have been coming out with since 2004 now, but I don't want to pay $40k+. 

-Cool cars by Nissan. Remember the 80's and early 90's? Nissan made some really great cars with sporty intentions: Sentra, Maxima, 240SX, and the 300ZX were super cool, and so were some of the others. Now, the Z is overpriced and old, and everything else is saddled with crappy CVT's. Makes me sad.

I would settle for the manufacturers letting us to buy just the options we want instead of "packages".  In 2015 i bought a new Subaru Outback.  I would have liked to get the 3.6L engine, but to do that i would have had to buy the "Limited" with all kinds of things I didn't want.  Cost wasn't a problem, I paid cash.  So I ended up with the "Premium" with the 2.5L.  Even then I had to get a moonroof if I wanted the power liftgate.  The moonroof has been open once, the day I picked it up!  I don't even open the inside part to let the light in because it creates glare on the instruments.

Would turn current DD Miata into a track car and buy an ND, dog ass ugly as it is, if they had it in decent colors.  6 shades of grey and a red don't qualify.  Fiata looks decent, but is cursed with having too many Fiat parts in it.  Would also like the ability to buy a stripper ND Miata with a limited slip differential.   

Any two door wagon with RWD and a standard transmission.  Lord bring back the shooting brake.

Until you can select individual options, rather than option packages, it is unlikely I will purchase a new vehicle.  Why buy new and take a depreciation beating, when you can't buy the car you want new in the first place?  When my brother got his SRT 8 Challenger, he had to special order it to get one without a sunroof.  He waited 6 months for it.   Back in the 90's, my wife special ordered a Chevy Sportside truck in Corvette yellow.  Waited 9 months and when it was finally delivered, they sold it to someone else off the transport truck.  Not a pretty scene, but nobody got shot.  She did get a dark blue one for less than what we got when we sold it 4 years later.

4dr 4wd turbo diesel manual Tacoma sized truck for less than 30k. I don't need wifi, I don't need air-conditioned seats. I'd buy one tomorrow. I don't understand why they always option diesel trucks to the moon, I'm buying it for gas milage, why would you think I want to spend an extra 20k in trim levels and options?

My price point for a 'nice car' has always been in the neigborhood of 3K.  I typically spend a lot less.....    Anyway if they made a new car for 3K that had manual, roll up windows and full leather interior. ... I would buy it right now.

Easiest: For pricing on full size SUVs, mid-sized trucks, and 1500 level trucks to come back down from the stratosphere. 

Ridiculous Level: An El Camino/Ute with a manual option. 

Realistically could fit my budget even with a reduction in paygrades: A Fit with Si trim (i.e. LSD transmission and a variant of the L15 turbo) or a Subie Crosstrek with at least the BRZ 2.0, even better if it's the old FXT 2.0T with a manual transmission. Or another MazdaSpeed3 hatchback.

 Lunacy: Walking into a dealership and ordering a car exactly how you want it. Not being limited by what certain trim levels can offer. I.e. I want a base WRX with cloth seats, no sunroof, but the LED headlights and brembo brakes from the STI. 

More wagons with 3 pedals. 

I'd like an AWD minivan that can tow 7,500 lbs.  And a Mustang sedan that could be had with a  V8, AWD, manual, and had three seat belts in back.

A 3.6 pentastar crate motor that I could put in my dakota.

A new Rampage would be cool.


So a small truck that is actually small but doesn't suck out loud. GM used to have that with the colorado even though my cousins colorados could hold less in the bed than my dakota for some odd reason. 

I need a big car for tall people capable of rear facing kid seats behinde me while making the right sounds and having lots of power on tap. 

Chevy made the SS just how I want it...with a manual. Then stopped because people like me can't or won't spend 45-50k on a new car. I wont put my money where my desires are when manufactures actually do build something lustworthy, so my opinion on what they should build is useless.

If Mazda keeps the new 180 horse car starting in the 25k range, I might pop for that.  I'm thinking about the 86, too.

Anything light weight 2 doors without all the safety nannies in that price range I would buy, even though (or maybe because) I'm loving the snot out of the NB.

I drove a brz not long after it came out, but go pedal wise it was a Camry.   I've seen a lot of comments here where some would have bought but for that.

Make it fun to drive, people will buy it, but it should be fun to drive as a base car too, not just the hot rod version.  I think Ford had the idea with the focus, I used to see a lot of them with the 18s and such, but they put that horrible auto/dct in it, hosing themselves. 

Most of the mfgs focus on bland and too safe, too practical, etc.

But everybody likes the hot rod Camaros, Challengers, etc. 

I guess my point is there are a couple out there I may buy, but I think they could sell more (i.e. generate a little more enthusiast market in younger buyers) if they built and marketed for it. 

I guess if it were as easy as all that I'd be a car company exec....
