This place is about a half hour from my house. I'll probably go there to see what I can find. Cheaper than dragging a trailer to Ga and back.

Those aren't rat rods, they're just pieces of battered, neglected trucks.

This is it. This is what Rat Rods should be, built from junk, not turned into junk. And yes I'm one of those curmudgeons who thinks it was stupid to strip the paint off the Karman Ghia and piss on it.

Exactly.

It's the difference between "patina" and "distressed". The former is what a quality thing gets after much use. The latter is what you do to a cheap thing to make it seem expensive to fools.

The picture I posted wasn't junk, but like I said - it was more 'steampunk art' than 'rat-rod' .

It had details on it's details. The inner fenders were hammered copper. The radiator shroud was hammered copper. It didn't have a hood and all provisions for one (hinges and latch) were removed. The interior was equally over the top. The shifter was an 24" auger bit. The brake and gas pedals were large open-end wrenches. The light switches were rattlesnake tails.

It really was an amazing piece of artwork. The engine was a simple SBC and if anything, I think I would have switched out the Edelbrock carb for something more interesting/artsy: like old down-draft Strombergs or something. Or if he was willing to scratch-build a manifold, quad SU's in a cross-ram configuration. The builder obviously had the talent to pull it off.

With the playing around that I've done with S(omewhat)U(ntunable)s, I've often thought of doing something like that. I have seen a Harley with an SU hanging on it.

Just a question, I have heard that about people peeing on their cars, is that really the best way to make something rust? There has to be a better way....

There was a woman here for a while that had one in a Daytona 250 kit car. No rat, just hot.

Oh yeah--I remember her!!! I think she had an oddball Lambo too--like a Uracco or Espada.

One of the two I posted was not a rat, it was a traditional rod. Like these:

My GOD--this one is gorgeous. I don't care if it's labeled traditional, rat, carichature--whatever--it's beautiful

I wonder if anything could be done with this? Cord hot-rods are rather uncommon.
