You don't hear about people doing reseals to a GM. Like "OH, it's been 5 years, I really need to reseal my Grand Am."
Except for the plastic intake manifold gaskets on 60 degree V6s, Buick V6s, and Vortec V6s and V8s.
That wasn't a Dexcool problem because Ford used the same gasket design on the 3.8/4.2 and they had lots of failures as well. The Dexcool problem was when you ignored the leaking intake gasket because it was a $700-1000 repair every 30k or so, and air seeped in, and the air mixing with the coolant turned it into sludge that collected in the heater core, and the radiator, and plugged the head gasket passages.

These seem to represent three different demographics.... although they probably have a lot of overlap. Arguably, they all circle back to the thread's premise.
1. Dave Ramsey listeners - ever notice how he mentions one of the best bets in really cheap used cars is a well taken care of grandma car? Or others who have reached the same conclusion.
2. The boost grenade brigade, who is buying the supercharged ones for the sleeper potential.
3. People who want a sort-of-luxury car with a low buy in and maintenance costs.
In reply to MadScientistMatt :
I was under the impression it was all a single demographic - First or second car that was inherited from the original geriatric owner, grandma/grandpa/great-aunt whatever. Not a car of choice, but it was a gift or cheap family price, and since it was free and won't die there's little incentive to replace it even if they hate it.
