That was a heck of a game, especially to beat Mr. Mahomes & Co. at home.  Congratulations Cincinnati fans.

As often as Mahomes has come up clutch over the last few years, you just can't win em all.

Guess I'm rooting for Cincinatti.  Anyone but the Rams.

Good timing to break a 6 game losing streak, there.

Even though I'm nominally a 49ers fan I don't see them advancing past the Rams.

The defence will do spectacular, deebo and kittle will pull off something great....and then Garoppolo will do something utterly stupid that wipes all that out.

Apparently I can see the future.

Although Tartt missing that interception was stupid too

Genuinely happy for Matt Stafford. I guess maybe he wasn't he problem for 12 years here.

Lol they got me.

I sat and watched an entire rams vs 49ers game only to find out that it was a replay of the last time they played in the regular season at the two minute warning.

Expertly done gentleman.  Bravo.

When I saw that, I was remembering your post. Granted, if the lob had been a few inches lower, the receiver might have caught it.  Hard to say if the outcome would have been any different, tho.

Garoppolo really isn't that great of a QB, he rarely wins games because of his play. Put him on a bad team and he isn't making them better.

Tartt.....you hate to be the type of person that says anyone could have made that catch but I have a hard time believing that any other safety in the NFL doesn't make that catch.

You can't put the blame totally on those 2 but they definitely didn't put the 49ers in a position to win

Realistically, the second half was very different- SF's was slowed enough, likely that the Rams did a better job putting the game in Jimmy G's hands- and it STILL took through most of the 4th quarter for the Rams to actually put pressure on Jimmy.  And at that point, the pressure was game ending.

And I also thought that McVay made some odd offensive calls that prevented LA to move the ball efficiently.  For sure, he needs to have a meeting with his replay team- those were some very bad attempts to over turn calls.

Yea, very much so.  It was questionable at some points- when his age (and all of the injuries suffered via the lions offensive line) showed with some of those bad long passes.  Especially the one that should have been the easiest turn over of all time near the end.  Keep it reasonably short, and he played really well- and not Goff short.

(at the same time, the two times he hit players in the hands for either really long gains or an easy TD was tough to see)

Looking forward to the SB....

I have to think this is going to be really low scoring with some excellent D.  Obviously, Cincinnati won because they were able to contain one of the best QB's in the game right now.  Burrow did really well, sure, but IMHO, he did what he was asked to do.  The D being able to contain Mahomes won the game.

And the Rams have two of the best players on their D, where we have seen Cincinnati struggle with pass blocking.

So it may come down to one drive for Stafford vs Burrow.

One interesting thing- the Rams went all in for this game almost exactly a year ago, when they traded a lot to the Lions to get Stafford, and then added to that with a pretty strong spending spree.  On the other hand, everything I've read about the Bengals is that they are about a year early of their projected climb- this year is kind of unexpected.

Your hurting his trade value, I don't think Trey Lance looks any better. 49ers have some decisions to make I am sure the Panthers will have a go at Jimmy G, and then fire the coach next year. I was hoping it would be a repeat Bengals and 49ers, not a fan of LA team, espcially OBJ.

It has been a REALLY long time since Bengals fans saw the sunlight.  Very excited, a bit of disbelief even.  Strangely happy it was not a repeat of the Bengals vs 49r's.  This may just be Tim Krumrie PTSD but irrelevant at this point as the Rams 49r's game was another close one.  Amazingly good post season games across the board.

Unfortunately unless the 49ers win a Superbowl his value would be decreasing. He's still way better than Darnold or Newton but Mahomes he ain't.

I don't think Lance is ready either, I still hold that a trade for Rodgers( dependant on what his new injury is) isn't a bad idea. Rodgers has a year or 2 left in him at the top of his game and he grew up a 49ers fan. I'm roughly the same age as him and grew up in roughly the same area, it was a great place and time to be a 49ers fan. He gets to play with the team that he grew up watching, he gets to join a team that was almost in the Superbowl so they aren't rebuilding, and he gets to rub the Packers face in the dirt by being more successful. The Packers get a bridge QB that's better than any other QB they can get from a team Rodgers is willing to go to, they get some draft picks to start the rebuild and they get rid of the drama surrounding Rodgers. Really everyone wins.

Rodgers would be stupid to go back to the Packers, or to join the Broncos, Raiders or most any other team he's linked to. Barring like.....the Seahawks offering Wilson for Rodgers I don't see a better situation for all involved

Do we need to start a separate thread for the Flores lawsuit?  The implications are, um...  significant... given how the NFL has embraced the gambling industry.

I would not be surprised if the most successful coach for the Lions over the last 60 years who got fired after posting a winning season joins in.  Hasn't had a job since then.

And former Browns coach Hue Jackson also alleges that he was asked to lose games.  Given that Baker Mayfield was drafted for them after the 2017 season finished winless...  interesting.

edit- as to your gambling point- consider how deep that goes into the NFL- from simple game bets all the way down to individual player performance bets.  But since most networks have gambling sponsors, nobody has brought this up, yet.  Good on you to point that out!

I'm not sure the idea of a losing team continuing to lose in order to solidify a draft position is anything new.

But otherwise I agree the embracement of gambling in the NFL and the sports industry as a whole does bring into question some of the authenticity.  That said, I'm sure the recent playoff games have given some bookies a bit of heartburn.

I've said since his firing the Lions won't prosper until they do right by Jim Caldwell...  Ironically the discrimination aspects of Flores lawsuit and circumvention of the "Rooney rule" may well be overshadowed by his pay to tank allegations.  IMHO this is bigger than Pete Rose betting on games he played in, especially since the NFL has embraced the sportsbooks and given it's blessing to gambling.  Stroker hit the nail on the head.

Regardless of the Flores lawsuit, it's been grating on me for the last few months to watch video previews of games and hear the personalities casually toss off references to "Take the Over", etc. as part of the promotion.  Maybe it's just me, but the NFL should have been a whole lot smarter about seeing the risks of getting in to bed with the gambling/Fantasy Football industry.  I'd call it Karma but I'm going to file it under "They should have known better..."
