Don't get me wrong, I'd much rather be in this position than where we've been before, but that doesn't mean the arrow isn't pointing downwards at the moment. Maybe they can right the ship?
BTW, I realize that I said that the Bears swept the Lions, and while that's not technically correct, that win we had against them felt like a loss, as have several of our recent wins, so I'm going to leave my error in that post.
The league is watered down.
There.
I said it.

Detroit/Cleveland Superbowl would be epic and well deserved for the fans, it's not like some bourgeois fest of empty seats at La Rams and Taylor Swift showing up to a nfl game. It would be a win for the diehard fans less of the image of the NFL. 38 year old Qb facing against Coach Cambell old style coaching, epic but the nfl would somehow conspire to make it not happen. I don't take issue of the refs in any sports, but Myles Garret is right that they treat him different and let him get teared up on the no hands to face and holding calls. The only way to stop him is to do that.

Holy crap what a beatdown last night. Will Charger fans show up wearing paper bags on their heads?
In reply to stroker :
I needed to move a fork truck today, while waiting for another employee to move his truck a third lift was behind me. The guy yelled out so the first guy could here him "It's all right Dave, John and I got about as much to do today as the Chargers head coach!"
Still giggling about that one.

Dear Russell Wilson,
The 2023 Patriots may in fact suck but Coach Belichick is still living rent free in your head.
Merry Christmas Denver!
The fog around here in SE MI reminds me of a Stephen King horror story- which means the Lions actually did win the NFC north. If the Lions and Browns make the SB, expect a huge rift to open in the earth.

The Lions have been in Ford Field for more than 20 years and have never hosted a playoff game there. I still remember the last one at the Silverdome in January 1994. It didn't sell out, so we had to listen to the game on the radio. But even from 40 miles away I could see how open Sterling Sharpe was that day...
Almost torture watching that game. So close to winning it- but just a secondary away from being a great team. Well, and a little better situational play calling. They played really well and they had some horrible plays...
And just when you thought the refs were not against the Lions, they totally screwed them on that go ahead 2 point conversion. In replay, you could see the lineman who caught the ball report to the ref, and the ref reporting that to the dallas line. And they STILL called illegal touching.

It's almost comical at this point. Officiating has become a joke in this league.
Having said that, once the penalty was called, they should have kicked it and played for OT. Love the aggression, but sometimes it's best to fight another day.

Agreed. The ref as already admitted he "assumed" 70 was reporting as eligible.
My problem with the vacuum of idiots out there and 68 being uncovered for an illegal formation. You can run an unbalanced line. The center doesn't have to be a center. As long as there are enough players on the line it's legal.
Campbell and Johnson are playing chess while everyone is crying because they are still playing checkers and that's not fair.
In reply to Ranger50 :
So it's also come out that Campbell talked to the refs about this specific play prior to the game. So the ref assuming that 70 was reporting (which the replay does not show him wiping his number- the signal to report) is a little worse- he knew this play was a distinct possibility, and at this point in the game, could have even expected it.
As for how brilliant the play was, it also ignores some of the poor calls that Johnson made- both of Goff's INTs seemed to be very expected by Dallas. Especially the first one. The second one could have been a better throw, for sure. But there were many times during the game that Johnson's calls were apparently so obvious that Dallas easily snuffed it out. Then I would fault the low percentage pass calls he made- Goff played well, but he's had issues with some passes for a few weeks now. Even that last play was a tough pass to make- when he had a few other players who were just as or more open in the end zone. But what really got me was how many runs were stopped behind the line of scrimmage- meaning Dallas clearly knew that play was coming.
Sometimes they are playing chess, sometimes it's tic-tac-toe.
If the Lions were as good as we want, the play would not have even mattered. But it sure sucks that the refs took the opportunity away like that. It would have been a lot easier to deal with that the great Dallas kicker won the game on a 70 yard FG than like that (which they would have had a realistic chance to do).
In reply to alfadriver :
Outside of Prescott to lamb, dak sucked. Goff has his issues with not being a scramble qb, but he normally doesn't set his feet causing errant throws.
Tape shows Gibbs is the pass play and Montgomery is for the run. I don't get not calling more off the right guard/tackle run plays.... they were all 7-12 yards a crack.
Just heard the Allen officiating crew has been downgraded.

As much as any sane human should hate the Cowboys I'm going with the Lions tried to confuse Dallas and ended up confusing the ref and berking themselves. None of the three linemen swiped their number. Berk around and find out.
So much for a close Ravens/Dolphins game. Miami should be embarrassed. 56-19. Ouch
In reply to Stampie :
So blame the players for the refs mistake. And given this is the Lions, I'm sure that's how the NFL is looking at it. People forget that the longest FG in NFL history is 100% because they missed a really, really obvious delay of game penalty. Or that the refs picked up a called, obvious, PI against Dallas that cost Detroit a game. It's hard enough to deal with the other team. Detroit also has to play against the refs.

A playoff game, no less.
Hopefully the team uses this as motivation. Detroit vs everybody!

I am totally with you on how great a Detroit/Cleveland Superbowl would be - especially if held in a properly cold climate, but you totally lost me at "the nfl would somehow conspire to make it not happen." I am sick, sick, sick of conspiracy theorists in sports, politics (another form of sports) and practically everywhere else.

You don't have to trash talk the eagles, they are doing it pretty good on the field.
In reply to alfadriver :
Did you wonder why they never showed the "tripping" penalty in replay? Because the Lions player tripped the Dallas player.
Also, even if 68 was the one who reported, he wasn't covered up by the WR, who was two yards off the LoS, making it an illegal formation penalty, which is five yards, just like the illegal touching penalty. But no one wants to talk about that.

That other missed call is another reason why the crew got lowered. BTW, he didn't actually trip him- just stuck out his leg.
As for the formation, it was legal. To be in the position as the tight end and eligible as a receiver, the WR had to line up in the backfield to not cover him up. If the WR was on the line of scrimmage, that would have made him an illegible receiver. You kind of have the rule backwards.
