I just ordered... ahem... MY WIFE just ordered a couple records for Christmas for me from these guys:

If you like your Metal in the Traditional fashion, Spirit Adrift is worth a listen. They are riff-tastic. One of my favorite bands out there right now.

Bonus:  He nails the "pull high E off the neck" part in the second solo, which most people who cover the song don't even bother to do.  Allegedly, Kirk kept breaking strings while recording, so I can sort of see why people don't try.

Looking for something else entirely (klezmer metal covers, because someone suggested it as a genre and I wanted to see if it existed) I discovered that Diamond Head still exists, and re-recorded this last year.

...I'll admit, that sounded a lot like it was more like a cover of Metallica's version of their song.  To the point that I listened to both the original version, and Metallica's version, in increments.  When doing that you can tell that they kept their original tempo and most of their tone, but amped up the distortion.

YouTube threw this at me today.  I think this is known as being through the looking glass.

YouTube throwing more Metallica at me.

Fairly sure that I've linked the video of three people playing One on a single guitar.

Well, here's a single person playing Orion's bass and guitar parts.  Hammer/tap skill level: max

Nice thing about my new job is most of the time I'm sitting in my office all by my lonesome working on computers, so I have plenty of time to catch up on music.  There's so much good stuff being released these days!  My bandcamp wishlist is getting full.  I think my tastes might be a bit heavier than most of y'alls, but some of my favorites that I've been listening to recently:

Archspire - Relentless Mutation (technical death metal that's actually catchy)

https://archspire.bandcamp.com/album/relentless-mutation

Hath - Of Rot and Ruin (progressive death metal, one of my all-time favorite albums)

https://hathnj.bandcamp.com/album/of-rot-and-ruin

Surgeon - Beast of Light (progressive black metal, my band got to play a show with them before they split up)

https://surgeon.bandcamp.com/album/beast-of-light

I've been exploring a lot of new (to me) bands, like mgla, and finding some stuff that I enjoy.  Pete - your posts make me want to revisit Metallica's 80s albums.  ...And Justice for All has always been one of my favorite albums.

Sabaton, or Manowar?  I'd classify both as cheesy to be honest...

Sabaton. Cheesy, but not in a Dragonforce kind of way...

I friggin' love that Dragonforce is a unit of cheesiness, like "on a scale of 1 to Dragonforce, i give the Vornado a six."

So, I'm in teh Batcave, and I remembered a band someone told me about, thanks to a recent webcomic.

Said someone was my TSD co-driver, so we're talking like 2006 or so, wonder if their stuff could be found on YouTube?

Not only yes, but they are still around, and have their own channel.

Pegging the cheesiness meter, I present STOVOKOR, aka Klingon metal.

This actually reminds me a lot of some Japanese melodic metal I found a ways back.
