I've got a friend who has struggled with Muscular Dystrophy most of his life. He's been in a wheelchair as long as I've known him, wonderful father of 3 young kids.

He's failing. He is on the donor list for a heart, but has now turned septic, and will probably live less than a week.

His wife is a strong woman who has dealt with it all, through it all.

He is at peace, and ready. She is in denial, and waiting for a miracle. The only thing he wants at this point is for her to begin living after he's gone.

He is at a hospital in Jacksonville, about 3 hours from where they live. She and the kids have been staying in an apartment there free of charge.

This week an odd thing happened. She got a call from someone who wanted to rent her house. It wasn't even listed. Rent with an option to buy at the end of the year. The rent is enough to cover the mortgage plus a little bit. The only catch- they need to move in on May 1. That's this Sunday.

She called some friends, and moved out. She is now in J'ville for the duration.

It sounds a little odd. The obvious question is, "Where will they live?". But the reality is that she had already expressed that she didn't want to live in that house anymore if he were to pass away.

I think my friend orchestrated it. He found an angel who would buy the house and get her out of debt, give her a kick in the pants to start a new life, and save her dignity while never saying a word.

It feels kind of abrupt. I will miss them. But at the same time, I am appreciative of people who can selflessly do things like that to help people move on with their life in times like this.

Change medias. They aren't all filled with doom, gloom and horror.

SVreX,

Yes, there are angels out there. You never know when they will show up, but they do when you need them most.

My experience. My wife was diagnosed at 26 with breast cancer. We had been married for 8 months at that point. She remembers exactly when it started bothering here. Went undiagnosed for 6-7 years. It was a very rare, but very non-aggressive cancer which was her blessing. But she hit the lottery. >0.1% of patients are at her age. >0.1% get her type.

So, she is terrified. Lying in bed and just praying for a sign that everything would be ok. I say to her, out of the blue and I was almost asleep, that everything is going to be fine. She sits up and says "What did you say?? Why'd you say that?". She never said anything out loud, and I wasn't even looking at her. I've told her that in that moment, I just felt something... And I just KNEW that it was going to be ok.

That was 16 years ago. We've had a few scares since then, but everything has been fine.

I really believe that something or someone came to us to let us know that it would be ok.

Thank god for angels...

PS: To this day, everytime a doctor tries to tell us that the chances of something are either 0 or so remote, we say look at her record. Would you bet on that?

PPS: Damn onions here at work too...
