In my opinion this is better than a Bede 5, however it aint cheap
The Sonex was designed by a school teacher that just had an A&P certificate (John Monnett) and the BD-5 was design by a fully accredited aeronautical engineer (Jim Bede).
Technically, a kid that Monnett hired to sweep floors went on to study aerospace engineering at Stanford and did the wing’s aero and structural analysis as a thank you for giving him a start but whatever, the basic DNA is all Monnett.
Reminds me of the old adage…
Never underestimate the capability of the DIY’er. After all, the Titanic was designed by professionals and the Ark was designed by an amateur.
BTW, John Monnett wrote an autobiography and I enjoyed it a lot.
