Check this out. In Colorado, apparently a couple dealers are running a special for $9,000 off the sticker price on a new Nissan Leaf. Colorado has a generous $6000 tax credit which can be coupled with the federal $7500 tax credit.

That brings the price of a base model Leaf to...

$10,600.

That's just silly.

I would strongly consider buying one if that price were available in Texas. That's a good deal.

I've been seeing 1-2 year old ones with less than 20K miles as lease returns go through CarMax for $8500, so new at $10,600 doesn't surprise me. The bottom fell out of the market on these big time.

I think my residual on the Leaf is something like $17000 after my 36 month lease is up. Auction value on a 3 year old Leaf can't even be $8000 on a very good day. I can't imagine how NMAC is taking such a bath on these cars.

That said, if you can get this deal and make the commute work for you, its a no brainer. Purchase price minus residual plus electricity costs would be about the same as gas alone on a normal car.

That's a pretty good deal, but I still wouldn't want one.

The 16's have a longer range now over 100 miles. Score!
