I've got the Beretta equivalent (CX4 Storm).  I really can't recommend the concept highly enough.  Paring down ammo requirements is always a good thing.  It's an absolute tack driver out to about 100 yards.  It's simple to maintain and clean.  If I had been smart enough to buy a Beretta PX instead of the Springfield I bought, even the mags would be interchangeable.  I don't know that much about the Ruger, but I'd highly recommend a pistol caliber carbine in whatever caliber you prefer for your pistol shooting.  Buying the carbine was almost smart enough to offset the stupidity of another gun move I made at roughly the same time . . . selling my GP100.

I still want a Marlin Camp carbine in .45. Uses 1911 magazines and some smart individual makes 25 rd drum 1911 mags. PERFECT! Except those have become unobtanium

Well I managed to get the scope and mount turned around and the eyepiece is roughly aligned with the charge handle. The weather looks really questionable this weekend so I'm not sure when I'll be able to get out and sight it in, but I'll post pics when I do. Might be occasion to see if I can find a few rounds of something better that what I've got, which is just whatever I could find cheapest.

Also I really want a Ruger 22/45. But apparently so does everyone else. As has been repeated often, supply is down and demand is up.

Our furniture is a hodgepodge of "antiques," mostly Stickley style mission, living room coffee & end tables are transitional marble tops, I don't think I'll be convincing SWMBO to swap them out for magazine storage.

Ammo Depot emailed me this morning with $8 surplus .50 cal ammo cans, even with shipping and tax, that's less than half the price the Military Surplus Store north of town gets for them, so there's 6x .50 cal cans headed my way.  I'll consolidate a bunch of stuff, find a new home for the fishing paraphernalia, and get rid of some empty scope and accessory boxes I'm keeping for no real reason.  Then I might be able to open the door to the safe again.

I love the idea of the PC9, I'd kept an eye out for their original Police Carbine before they came out with the PC9, having the takedown function and using Glock mags just makes it that much better in my book.  I think I'd like the pistol version, with a folding brace.  I'm kicking myself for not buying the base model carbine when PSA was selling them for $400 a couple years ago.

Echoing Kazoospec & Bobzilla, it's nice to have a few versions of firearms that use the same mags and ammo, that hasn't stopped me from adding new stuff to my collection though.  I've got the 9mm version of the Marlin Camp Carbine Bobzilla mentioned, it uses S&W 59-series magazines, so when Classic had police trade-in 5906es in stock, I had to add one to my collection.

The MKIV is enough of an improvement over the previous generations, just for the ease of field stripping and cleaning, to justify it over the previous generations.  My brother has a MKII I've got a MKIV 22/45 lite.  I've got an acquaintance with either the hunter or competition version, longer, heavy barrel.  I'm a much better shot with it, than I am my own 22/45 lite.  Still a hoot to shoot, I wish magazines were cheaper though.

Yeah I've got some experience with mkI and mkII stuff and I'm not really a fan, but having watched some reviews on the mkIV recently, I'd like to give one a try. Not that I have the funds atm.
I did find that my new one will cycle well with the hp copper jacket federal stuff I have a bit of, so I'll save that stuff just for the one, and use the lead round nose in the marlin.

I really should see about getting a dirty beater truck for these outings. The Mercury does what I ask it to, but the dust is horrendous and I don't really like doing a full detail every week. Or maybe I build a table and stake it in place out there, that way I can just use the bike. I doubt anything would last long out there, but it might be worth a try.

Looks like it, huh?  I didn't expect that.

I didn't get in any real hurry when I placed my order, I knew it was a good price, but didn't expect them to sell out so quick.

Similarly I got email notification that Midway finally had 10/22 bolts in stock again (I maybe know a guy that snagged a Franklin Binary Trigger and wants to build a Charger style 10/22) it was maybe 2 hours between receiving the email and me stopping what I was doing to add it to my cart, only to be notified it was out of stock again.

It's crazy how quick even run-of-the-mill, everyday, regular, firearms, sundries sellout.

Yesterday I had a minute and stopped by my favorite local shop. They had a bunch of stock but only 1box per caliber per customer. Still, I found that careful timing could net 3 boxes. And prices were only 10-15% above normal, which is great if you're only shopping .22.

berkeley cheaper than dirt, wouldn't pee on them if they were on fire.

Texas AG accused them of price gouging and directed them to refund $400K+ to customers, doesn't seem to have changed their behavior.

I love my PC9: it's like a big boy version of my 10/22. I can toss a Glock drum in there and it's utterly reliable for 2" gongs out to 50' or so and 4" gongs to 100 yards. My bolt action .357 has a little more range and with good ammo makes tighter groupings, but it's tough to beat sticking in a magazine or drum and just pulling the trigger for smiles.

I had a 9mm AR platform that I got rid of after I bought the PC9.  While the AR was lighter and they both used Glock magazines, the PC9 was considerably more accurate.  It's actually most comparable to a 300 blackout AR from a lead on target perspective, but with lighter loads going too fast to suppress.

Now the 22/45 Lite that we bought my wife is an entirely different story.  I absolutely hate it and if it fell out the back of my truck I wouldn't even bother going back to look for it.  It's the least reliable, most jammy pos I have ever owned, making the AR-7 I had  as a kid look like a precision machine.

If you want to enjoy plinking with a semi-auto 22 Ruger pistol get either a regular Mark-whatever or a newer SR22. The long barrel 4.5" SR22 is out of the box everything my dad's Mark gun was after a slew of upgrades except it's lighter and possibly fractionally less accurate.  It gobbles any ammo I put in it and just plain works. My only complaint is that the safety is backwards of almost every other handgun we own.

Nothing. Was gonna text you for some input. I have a couple reloading manual PDFs. Midway says they expect die sets late next month, and everywhere else was sold out too. Local shops have powder and primers fairly regularly, so by the time I can get a die set I should be able to gather everything.

I will see if I have anything I can spare floating around. Do any of your local shops have bullets? shipping powder or primers is not worth the trouble, but I will check dies and bullets. If you are up visiting, let me know and I can pass on some primers or something else useful.

Anybody on here reload anything in 6mm and is also interested in Berger moly coated 68 gr.? I have 8 boxes of 100. I was going to build a 6mm rifle, but that won't happen any time soon.

I also have almost a 100 of Hornady .303 cal 174 gr. FMJ-BT bullets.

I am just looking at random stuff in my stash.

Speaking from experience, just get something because eventually you will have 1 of almost every caliber anyway.
Can't go wrong with .308, 7.62x39 (which I much prefer over .223), 9mm & of course .22 because they're fun & cheap. No real need for .40 or .45 because of the advancements in 9mm ammo & cheaper also.
.308 does kick more but there are ways to reduce this. I put my .308 Weatherby in a 3 way suppression Axiom stock & added a larger custom magazine.

Can shoot all day it you want & is not painfull.
For all around ruggedness accuracy & fun, hard to beat SKS (7.62x39) & Mosin Nagant (7.62x51).
I put my SKS in a Bullpup stock.

How is having your face right next to an SKS action with that bullpup stock?  Seems frightening to me.  We bought a bunch of those when they were $35 each if you bought in bulk many years ago.  I'd be tempted to try that stock vs the funky plywood setup they have from the eastern block factory.

It's fine as long as you're right handed. Since it ejects on the right. Had a left hand friend want to shoot it, would have been bad - bolt to the cheek & hot case to the face.
