Yea, you can buy the .223 for around 300.00. I wouldn't put my life on the line with the best one they make.
Ruger/Remington guy here.

I thought Fl had become pretty friendly to shooting people as well.

Very relevant thread for me right now. The girlfriend just asked me today about firearms for protection. I've been around guns (.22 handguns and rifles, 12, 16, 20 gauge shotguns) since a young age, but not often. More of a bow and arrow type guy. She's never shot any firearm (BB's not included).
We're going to look first into a firearm and/or hunters safety course, then will probably go on from there with a possible purchase.

Fun to shoot. Wouldn't trust it for home defense.
I personaly preferre a 12ga. but...
It seems that this hasn't been mentioned yet, but also look at pistol caliber carbines. To me a "Long" gun has better control over a hand gun. Over penetration will not be an issue. Lighter/compact/maunerable/less recoil, ect. compared to a shotgun.

I have one of those, in the earlier style. I put the aftermarket ATI stock on it. I love it, its one of my favorites and it is accurate and reliable. I don't know about the pistols, but the carbine I got is great. I put a scope on it but the sights were better and the blowback action puts a lot of movement and energy into the mounts so the scope can move a bit. This isn't mine, but this is what it looks like:
So, guy from Vivint was just here w/ offer of a 'free' home security system if they could put signs in my yard. Guy seemed legit but I googled the company and there's speculation on some boards. I wasn't interested, filed it under too good to be true/ strings attached.
Anybody deal w/ these folks before?
