I've been surfing websites ad-free for so long I forgot what they look like. But today I did a clean install of FireFox and suddenly I was reminded that GRM has ads. I disabled ABP for GRM and Classic Motorsports. With how much time I waste on here I'm sure it will add up eventually.
Disclaimer: I don't work for Tim but he did buy me lunch once.
I don't use ad blockers, because I'm OK with ads, that's how the sites I visit stay in business. I'm not OK with certain annoying technologies, like Flash-powered ads, popups, various "supercookies" etc, so those are blocked, and the GRM site is unaffected.
tracker data is where the real money is, anyways.

Well bad news, I use addons to block or confuse trackers ![](/media/img/icons/smilies/crazy-18.png)

What's a super cookie, and can it be cleared like a regular cookie?

I think I saw an episode of Sesame Street where Cookie Monster ate a super cookie. He was humping Snuffleupagus' leg.
Yes, that's how you spell "snuffleupagus". I googled it.

"supercookies" are any kind of storage on your computer, or information applied to your connection, to track you on the web beyond traditional cookies. These include things like Flash storage, HTML5 storage, special HTTP headers applied by cell phone carrier networks (!), and even special cached graphics.
To take care of Flash storage you can use an addon like BetterPrivacy or even a shell/DOS script to delete them. To take care of HTML5 storage you can disable it in your browser's configuration - I don't think there are any addons to manage them yet. Disabling cache will greatly limit the usefulness of special cached graphics. For the HTTP headers...that stuff is hard to fix especially with a modern curated-computing cell phone. The easiest ways are to change cell phone carriers or browse through a VPN back to your home network.

I didn't know you could "customize" adblocker per each forum .. shows how much I know about this thing called a computer
… I've let them back in on here ![](/media/img/icons/smilies/crazy-18.png)

I use ad blockers, because hijacked ads are the #1 method of malware injection.
Amazon is the worst offender in my book. To the point I don't shop there anymore.
I don't have any ad blocker, but this is one place where I never feel the need for it.
yahoo mail was why I added ad blocker in the first place … you couldn't read your mail due to the ads
I refuse to use yahoo mail because of all the ads. I continually have to fiddle with my mom's computer because of that, every time I turn around she's clicked on some damn ad or other, the computer locks up as the various ad, malware etc programs fight it out. She refuses to switch because she doesn't want to have to bother with transferring her address book etc. ![](/media/img/icons/smilies/whatthe-18.png)

ad block has gotten rid of the Yahoo Mail ads for me … they still have LOTS of irritating "features" … but so far they haven't completely driven me to gmail

In reply to wbjones:
I have a gmail account mostly because it came with my phone, but I use it for some things because 1)it's easier for the cashier to spell and 2)it free's up my usual account from stuff I'm only casually interested in.
But I am not a fan of the message formatting, regarding the threads. It hurts my eyes sometimes. #threadjackcomplete
