I'm curious. I have a wal-mart that jumped 10cents a gallon near me in a couple of hours.

Yes. CNN says it's because of all of the protests/overthrows in the Middle East, especially Libya. Plus the news that E15 got shot down (thank you!!).

There was a story on the local news last night about why gas prices were going to be going up. I swear, if I were the tinfoil hat type I'd say that Big Oil plants those stories to be able to crank the prices up.

Not here (Atl.) yet, but I expect it when the stations all get their deliveries later this week.

It's been going up here in 2c increments per rise for a couple of weeks by now. I wouldn't be surprised if there's another big jump happening RSN.

Of course, that's when I bought a V8 CJ...

My local Shell station jumped about 10¢ over night a couple days ago, but the only other stations I notice (all QT) have been fairly steady, though higher than last week.

The unrest in Libya seems like a very likely cause.

Actually crude has been slowly climbing towards the $100 mark well before the unrest in Libya. That's just the latest excuse.

Wait, so is everyone saying I shouldn't sell the civic so I can buy a 540i, M3, Camaro, or Subaru?

Jumped 10 cents last week. The news stories never really make sense on what's driving prices. A year or two back it was Chinese demand (like that didn't exist the month or year before the story) or that unrest in the Middle East is driving it. There's more to the prices than the news reflects but since journalism is mostly dead it's hard to tell what the story is.

You can use http://gasbuddy.com/ to track gas prices nationally or in any specific state or city. They have some neat trend charts as well.

yup it jumped... maybe it'll jump another $0.70 or so so all those big engined toys are worth nothing for a little while

Yeah, I've still never understood why the contract price for oil to be delivered NEXT MONTH (which jumped 8.5% today alone) affects the gas prices on stuff that is already in the ground.

Can anyone explain this seemingly huge scam to me?

yes

how do you expect the gas station to buy their next load if they don't sell what they have now for more? ;p

Yep, jumped 34 cents today...just after I filled up. Usually, they will raise the price on Thursday's for the weekend, then readjust on Sunday's.

Went from $3.19 to $3.29 here. Sucks when you're filling up 22 gallons.

They've also got an Android and an iPhone app that are very useful for finding the cheapest reported prices in the area you're in. Saved us a few bucks almost every time we use it.

It jumped 31 cents here, hey look who all the most profitable companies are! Huh.

Funny how this chart talks about profit, but not revenue, margin, or the US taxes alone they pay.

Exxon alone paid more than $30,000,000,000 (billion) in taxes in 2008 (the year on the charts). Kinda makes that $45 billion in profits take on a different perception...

is that 45 billion before or after they paid their taxes? Prices are marching up here too...
