Fri- President Obama and former President Clinton hold an impromptu press conference... halfway through, President Obama (not able to shut up Mr. Clinton) LEAVES THE STAGE to go to a party, and leaves a former president addressing the media through a press conference. Clinton continued for over an hour more.

Meanwhile, I guess it's OK for Congressmen to say "F*%k the president", as long as they are Democrats. Folks sure weren't happy when a Republican hollered "You lie".

I've heard a lot of people saying this is Obama trying to put a 'trusted' face on this tax malarkey. Be careful Obama, Clinton still lusts for power!

Am I the only one that thinks he got into office and realized how fubar this country really is and said to hell with it? That's the feeling I've been getting. It seems like he tried, but just isn't up to the task.

I think the fubared nature of the country was painfully obviously to most casual observers, but I will agree that he now appears to not be up to the task.

I heard a radio quote today suggesting that President Obama may be the best thing to ever happen to the Carter legacy.

I'm not trying to bash him. I just find it weird that a president would leave the presidential press conference up to someone else while he went off to a party. Am I missing something?

I was watching at work (nice thing about working at a TV station- that's my job!) It was kinda weird! I kept thinking someone is waking up from a coma right now saying "what year is it?"

I can't decide if it was brilliant or bone headed.

I found it odd that with as much work needs being done on trying to get this country back on track the president has had so much time to do so much show boating and basically doing nothing what so ever but put his face out there in as many ways possible.

Heck yesterday I caught a repeat episode of Mythbusters where he was on that. I would agree that he has truly jumped the shark.

I did find it odd that a current president turned to a former president to help push things along. I'm not even sure that's ever been done before. Obama did inherit a pile of crap to try and clean up. I don't know how hard he's working on things, but it does seem like he has plenty of time to play basketball and take trips all over the place. I also know the president is only one man. He can't just flip a switch and make things happen. If the House and Congress don't want to work with him, nothing gets done. I don't blame Obama for not getting this mess repaired. It took 8 years of Bush to get this far in the hole, and it does appear we're starting to climb out.

8 years of Bush PLUS 8 years of Clinton.

There's a VERY legitimate case to be made for the contributions the Clinton administration made to the economic collapse through changes in lending practices (which set the banks up for the current failure).

I'm not dredging that one up, but a lot of people remember it. Surely there isn't a big bonus to putting Clinton in front of a screen when a big percentage of the population consider him to be a part of the problem.

But heck, I've been keeping Mrs. Rex waiting for about a half hour, so, I'm gonna take off. But you are in good hands.

I don't understand why you get a guy that opposed the very notion of this type of tax cut to sell the Bush tax cuts, why not get say Bush to sell the Bush tax cut? The Bamster is making the same argument that Bush made when he got the cuts through the first time (i.e. trickle down economics) so why not let Bush stand beside him onstage?

But seriously i don't blame Obama for not being able to get Bill off a microphone, it takes two men with crowbars and a shapely intern to get him off one in the best of times.

Yes, that 5 minute cameo on Mythbusters to promote interest in science was horrible. Seriously, who needs edumacation anyway?

Obama has done a lot to try to improve our economy, but Republicans have done more to stop him. Organized hate is very effective.

Though even Clinton couldn't explain why Rebublicans wanted to loose $700 billion in taxes all while they bitch about the deficit. Because those tax breaks have done so much for our economy already...

Heck, I would have payed more taxes in my lower bracket to help out my country. Too bad nobody else feels the need to support our economy.

Wow, this thread is full o' hate! He's just a guy and he doesn't work 24/7 and he's no Jesus either so he cant work miracles. It's no like he just hopped in his Miata and left Clinton standing there to go to a party. He has a schedule and there is a lot of manpower involved in the logistics of all that, I'm sure they try to stay on schedule as much as possible.

With the exception of the healthcare thing I think he has been doing a good job. It takes time for changes made a that level to be seen if we even see them at all, some things change so slowly that they are nearly invisible.

W spent a whole lotta time in Texas cutting down trees, golfing, and riding his mountain bike, so what, he's allowed and Obama is too!

Yes cause I'm sure that it only took them 5 minutes for them to film the cameo right? Certainly they would not have had to meet decide on a myth to revisit, prep him on what to say so he would not sound like an idiot, setup the location or film multiple takes right?

There are far better ways for the president to support education than appearing on Mythbusters. Its not like it is even the first TV show he has pulled appearances on either, I think I remember hearing he was even on an episode of Iron Chef or something else on the food network.

The point is at this moment in time we need someone in the office more concerned about correcting the problems than just doing publicity stunts to get his face out there and make it look like he is doing something. I would much rather see less of the president and have the problems start to actually get fixed (without causing new ones) than see the president everywhere and nothing actually getting done.

Ummm...its the Presidential Press Conference! He's the President!

Last time I checked, he can call it (or not call it) any darned time he wants to.

Hate??? Don't be ridiculous. How about serious time management issues at best, and utterly lame attempt at leadership at it's worst.

How come anytime anybody has a legitimate disagreement with something stupid this guy does, somebody cries, "Hate?"

So you're really hanging on a cameo on a popular science show to show Obama's lack of interest in the economy? That's some serious grasping at straws.

What has the O done for the economy?

$700 billion bailout to save the US banking system - over $620 billion has been payed back. So even as it stands, the American people paid $80 billion to keep our financial system from completely collapsing...not bad.

Bailout to GM. The O saved the largest AMERICAN auto manufacturer and saved millions of jobs. Every penny has been paid back with intrest...not bad..pretty damn good actually. Except that $60 billion that Bush gave GM/Chrysler...we won't get back a single penny of that back.

The stock market - completely crashed under the ruling of Bush, now it's almost completely recovered under the O's watch...pretty good to me.

Job losses since the O took office...can't bitch there either-

GM money paid back in full?

http://www.nytimes.com/2010/05/02/business/02gret.html

Now this story predates the IPO, but even that still didn't generate enough revenue to cover the influx of taxpayer cash.

Now I don't want to debate whether it was a good thing for us to give them the cash. I see both sides of the debate - yes we saved jobs, but I also think that it in some way it benefited the unions also.

But what I do know is that ALL the money has NOT been paid back.

And how is that CURRENTLY responsible for our economic problems? In fact the original bill that the Repugs destroyed was designed to make it a zero sum bill. But the Republicans got what they want, reform without any true reform...thanks. Any opposition to the bill is based on hyperbole. Again, the Republican machine is very good at generating false truths and fear-aka "death panels".
