Fiesta ST’s for sale ~ Current GRM Classifieds

These two cars are interesting that are in the back of the latest magazine.  Any of you dudes?  Buehler?

Want to share details?  Am I buying one?  Not yet but I could use some Fiesta ST education.  I'm interested in how awesome they might be.

There aren't many cars that won't do that if sufficiently provoked  Back in the day a friend had a Fiat Bambina, the original 500cc one, fitted with tyres that were far too big for it. It was stupid easy to two wheel it and nearly as easy to control once it was there. I only recall it landing on its side once in the couple of years it lasted.

I had a 2014 Fiesta ST as a daily for over 5 years. All stock. I loved that little car. I sold it to someone on here after seeing a knarly accident involving another Fiesta ST. I was commuting 110 miles a day in it and decided I wanted something a little beefier. After selling it, I realized it wasn't that comfortable. I would be pretty stiff after my hour commute. Definitely fun little cars.

The fiesta's party trick is that it's really good at feeling a lot faster and more nimble than it really is. If you measure pretty much any of its performance with a stop watch the results are disappointing, but it's huge fun to drive and the turbo torque curve and short gearing make it feel like a rocket pretty much anywhere under 80mph (even though most f150s and a lot of SUVs can smoke it in a straight line). It's probably the epitome of a "tossable" car even though the actual overall grip isn't great. The stock handling balance is surprisingly good (basically the rear end is super stiff from the factory so it actually rotates off throttle). Add in some front toe out and it's pretty responsive too but still plenty stable at highway speeds. I really enjoy driving it on the street, for autocross it's entertaining but not very fast and a little sketchy. I did a handful of events with it and a track day a while ago and then decided I was done with that.

The stock ride is pretty horrible but there's some things you can do - smaller wheels for more tire sidewall, softer dampers. I would say it's still not great but certainly tolerable. Honestly a lot of the badness is baked into the chassis somehow; I had a base model rental a while ago and it really wasn't that much more comfortable but did feel like it was going to fall over any time I moved the steering wheel at highway speeds because of the softer rear end. Also of note as the miles go up, the rear spring pads are very much wear items and definitely hurt the ride quality as they deteriorate.

The interior isn't great but is fine (in Ford's defense the interior design is from like 2011 or whenever the fiesta started). It's held up reasonably well for me, mine is approaching 100k miles and the driver's seat foam is starting to wear out. There's a couple minor rattles, mostly only when cold and mostly fixable by smacking the right part of the dashboard.

In seven years and almost 100k miles the only non wear items mine has needed are a throttle body that are itself and an HVAC blend door motor. The original battery just finally died last month.

All in all I've really enjoyed it, this is by far the longest I've kept a car so far, and even now I still enjoy driving it. I'm starting to look at replacing it, but mostly because it's starting to not fit my needs super well anymore.

Although not an ST, I grew tired of trying to get in and out of the car.  I'm just an average size guy, but bouncing off the B  pillar and steering wheel when getting in, and having the pillar in the way when getting out grew quite tiresome

I drove one from Atlanta to Charlotte back in 2014. It was a hoot, but man was it brutal on the highway. I drove a Focus ST from Atlanta to Tulsa and it was WAY more comfortable on the road. The Fiesta just beat me to death, but it was damn fun.

DPS nailed the cars MO. I had one for a few years, and put 90k trouble free miles on it. It was tuned from the 1st week I had it. It was super fun, although the ride left lots to be desired. It definitely feels faster than it is, and on the regular commute, that's a good thing. It felt as quick as my RS does, but the stop watch tells a much different story. I wouldn't hesitate to buy another one as a fun DD. The Fiesta ST is the automotive equivalent of Scrappy Do.
