Finished my "hot rod"

You guys make me want to get back into shooting. I got my high school varsity letter on the rifle team, and I was a pretty good shot waaayyyy back in the day. We shot military surplus .22 target rifles in 3 positions, prone, keeling and offhand, on indoor ranges at schools (usually basements) at 50 yards. Yes, we shot rifles at school. They switched to air rifles this season I need to find a local shooting club and see about getting back into the sport.

Yeah heck join in on the fun. That is the great thing about. 22s they don't cost much to get into shooting. Though they are a gateway to larger caliber more expensive rifles

i appreciate that, but it photographs much better than it looks in person. I think the flash brought out a lot of the grain in that one. you can kinda see a few of the gouges on the butt in that picture, and its got some more on the othe side. definitely looks like it rode around behind the bench in someone's old pickup for some time. hopefully i'll see how it shoots this weekend, and then later i might try refinishing it.

Maybe today I will take a picture of my old beater Marlin and you can see just how beat up it is

resurecting this one... sent my bolt off to Que today to be reworked. final touch on the 10/22. for now.

....aaand again. should have the 10/22 bolt back from its workover this week, and i took the new-to-me marlin to the range today.

a little gusty right to left wind, but i was able to shoot 1"ish groups, with some seemingly random fliers. i think the heavy trigger pull might be affecting things, so thats the next priority with it.

Resurrection for updated pics of the hot rod. I took it out this last weekend though the conditions were very cold and windy so I only put about 50 rounds through it. I took 3 types of ammo with me Federal bulk round nose, Aguila SSS and some CCI Velocitors .

The rifle fired all of the rounds flawlessly and really seemed to like the Velocitors they came out of the barrel basically like a laser beam, if you put the cross hairs on the target they would hit it with power to spare. The SSS ammo was extremely quiet when fired and you would hear a very audible "thump" when the bullet hit the target. The bulk stuff was just fine and acted just as any regular plinker ammo from any other .22, nothing spectacular. I had no issues with the 40g bullets fragmenting at all though I'm not sure I would push much below that with this fast twist barrel. I was quite surprised to find the rifle loves the Velocitor rounds and I will be buying more of them soon.

The new stock (the Boyds I had issues getting) balanced out the rifle nicely and made it extremely comfortable to shoot. I'm not completely happy with the color, it is a bit light for my tastes so I think a respray will be needed.

I did not setup for shooting our competition and I was shivering for the cold so much anyway my results would have been way off.

Oh and then say hello to my little friend! I finished my new light weight AR build as well. It is using a Plum Crazy composite lower and a DPMS Sportical upper with pencil barrel. The whole package weights about 5.5 lbs and is a blast to shoot.

nice! i'll have to get pics of my AR in its latest form as well when i take some pics of the Enfield No. 4 Mk.1 i picked up from the pawn shop last week. just waiting on a replacement rear peep sight for it, someone had tossed the original and put some cheap red dot reflex scope on it that was made for airsoft guns

Nice, I'm really wanting to pick up an Enfield at some point though mainly to building into a long range accurized rifle.

On your AR did you put that together or was it a bought package? I need to get a dedicated scope for the DPMS/Plum. Yesterday I found out a guy I use to work with has a horse ranch out here and he said I can come out and varmint shoot all I want.

I just picked up a new Bushmaster flat top Carbon 15 with a Bushnell red dot, two clips, a cheap sling, two small weaver risers, six position butt stock, and a hard case for $699 at Gander Mtn. Bushmaster's website says it weighs 5.77lbs or something like that. I thought it was a sweet deal.

the AR is a DPMS 1:9 chromoly lined 5.56 upper and a RRA lower with their 2-stage national match trigger.

Edit: the scope is a BSA catseye 4-16x 44 mounted on high rings. i tried medium rings to see if the front sight would interfere with the FOV, but it doesn't matter because the objective hits the handguard if i mount it any lower.

the enfield had a cheap scope mount on it, and was missing the rear adjustable sight and all the pins and such for it. i bought an "L" rear sight thats similar to the battle sight on the ARs mainly to get the pins, spring and plunger for the rear sight, and to have something on it, and i'm looking for a decent deal on one of the machined adjustable ones that was originally on it.
