I'm looking for any info on the Model 60. My knowledge is limited to price($150-175), tube fed, and aftermarket includes bullpup conversions. My ultimate goal is to install a bullpup stock or other "features" that would violate the SAFE Act if used on my 10/22.

I have one, it's a great little piece. I learned to target shoot with it and it's very accurate in my hands, and really all i ever do is plink raccoons with it anymore and send it to my uncle to clean every few years. He has a stainless model that i shot before i bought mine.

The 60 and moist nugget were my first rifle purchases. The 60 is a great bargain and out of the box can run circles around the 10/22. I've worked over the action on mine, polished everything u and what not. Best upgrade was the DIP trigger and new recoil and tube springs. Been thinking about doing the mcarbo springs to get the trigger a little lighter. No sling studs out of the box, so grab some while you are at the lgs.

It's prolly as good a 22 as any other. Depending on when it was made, there's some aftermarket support and factory replacement parts available. The current EOM parts will not fit early production guns. If you're getting it for garage sale money, then it's a no-brainer.

A Marlin 60 was the first 22lr firearm I purchased and it shot well, liked it especially for the price I got it off a coworker who was moving out of country...$80. Not really a fan of most normal semi-auto 22's though...cleaning them is pretty tedious. That's what I love about my Sig 522 though, that thing is built to function without the need for a constant cleaning, have yet to have a single non fire or hangup with it after many thousands of rounds with different ammo, no issue at all shooting a full brick of 22 ammo without any cleaning. Plus I like pistol grip ergonomics much better than standard rifle stock ergonomics. Had to rework the stock on the Marlin to get it comfortable and more precise to shoot, extended LOP and reworked the wood for better trigger hand fit/ergo:

Have you shot a bullpup before? It's . . . weird. My buddy has a NYSAFE compliant bullpup SKS (stripper clips, no detachable mag).

Again - the configuration is just . . . weird.

+1. I used to think bullpups were ultra cool, until I picked one up. They're so out of "balance" I can't stand 'em....

Thanks for all the good advice. Good tip about bullpup balance. I'll keep that in mind. Otherwise, another .22 semi is fairly low on my list. I already have a 10/22 as well as an Ithaca Saddle Gun(single shot lever). I would sooner look for a bolt or a repeating lever.

There was a survivor mid-'80s or older Model 60, with the 22" barrel, full length magazine tube, and really good condition stock, even had a little JM stamp on the barrel, at the local gun show a few weeks ago for $150.

I passed on it, wound up buying something else, and told myself I'd spent enough money for the time being. It got to nagging at me, so I went back the next day hoping to buy it, but got there too late, everyone was about done packing up to go home.

I don't have a 60, but I've got a Henry lever action, and grew up shooting a Winchester 190, so I have a soft spot for tube fed magazine rimfires. I do have a Marlin 995 (yes nine-95) precursor to the 795, which is more or less a 7 round drop out magazine fed version of the Model 60. Great little plinker, super accurate even with most bulk ammo, doesn't care much for quiets or sub-soncis, but most semi-autos don't.

I'd be all over a 60, one is on my short list, but I won't be buying new, I have reservations of most things under the Freedom Group's umbrella anymore, and I don't think I'd want to convert my old 60 into a bullpup.

Never shot a bullpup, but have considered one of the 870 conversions, our 870s seem to be replicating via mitosis or something around our place. Speaking of bullpups, an IWI Tavor, Styre AUG, and FNH PS90 are all on my radar, look like they'd be a hoot, probably don't meet "SAFE criteria" though. Sadly they're all priced beyond what I'd be willing to pay for what is more or less a novelty to me.

I've gotten a little of track, and am starting to ramble now. Buy an old 60, don't bullpup it, or do, it's yours, have fun, take pictures, and share them with us.

The AUG is certainly a hoot.

It is on my radar, but pretty low on the list. My current.22 wish list is 6+ items long. Top spot is a toss up between a Henry lever, RAR bolt, or a cheap bolt. The only cheap bolt I've handled was a savage MK2L with an FTE issue and the fit and finish felt lacking behind my ruger.

Otherwise a shotgun or center fire rifle is ahead of another .22.

I adore my Henry lever action .22 way more than I did my Marlin 60c. That isn't to say the marlin is a bad gun by any means. My particular one wasn't the most reliable but that was more a result of neglect before I owned it than anything else. The Henry is just a nicer gun all around. And I'm a sucker for a lever action.

hmm.. only one I've ever fired is my 10/22 with the HTA 90/22 conversion (FN P90 clone), and I love mine. I guess it's just a matter of getting used to the different feel after years of shooting conventional long guns. I like the compactness of the 90/22, as it's a "truck gun" that stays in the Jeep.

(not my gun but virtually identical)
