I know there are some Dr.Who fans on here. I have never seen an episode of the show but am interested in checking it out. If I were to watch one episode that would guarantee I get hooked, what episode would it be? A link to a download would be helpful.
Hi Mark!
Dr. Who isn't the type of show where you'll get hooked on one episode, you've got to make the effort to watch a couples episodes first before it grows on you - that was my experience anyways. I started from the 2005 re-boot and I'm a quarter of the way into the 5th season now. You could probably jump into any episode right away though, as each episode is a new planet/time/event.
I like the second and third Doctor myself 1960s black and white. I can not think of anyone episode that will "hook" you.
Just start watching and enjoy.

This is all you really need to know about Dr. Who...
Everything but the current season since the 2005 revival is available for instant streaming via Netflix. Start watching.

I agree that it isn't something you really get into after just one episode. I'd start at the beginning of Season 1 or Season 2. My girlfriend and I found it easier to start with Season 2. We were too used to thinking of David Eccleston as his character in 28 Days Later.
But if you had to make it one, and you're pulling up the reboot of the series on Netflix, I'd say "Blink" (Season 3, Ep 10) is one of the best episodes.
Blink may be the best episode ever. Another good one is the WWII gasmask episode.
There are too many intertwined story lines in Dr. Who to get a feel for it in just one episode.
Just get into Mr. Bean; it's easier to understand.

I have watched Dr who for 30 years now... I cannot begin to describe where to start.
i'd agree with the gota watch a few before it clicks take... the first one I just sat there confused but was interested enough to watch a few more...
good show... sit down and watch a few :)
I started with the first episode of Doctor 11 (Matt Smith). The episode is titled, appropriately, "The Eleventh Hour", and is the first episode of series 5.
I would recommend starting there, because I am hooked. (by the time you finish series 6, you will want to start over from the beginning).
I'm on the same page as Fink. This is the most important part of Dr. Who.
I started watching Dr. Who during the David Tenant era and i think Katherine Tate was his best companion. I' ve began to like Matt Smith especially with her super hottie redhead companion Karen Gillan. Yeah you really have to watch a few shows to get into it. I think the writers did a really good job on the latest doctor.

Agreed. Although the least "hot", she really was the best companion. Tate and Tennant had great chemistry. I felt bad for her character when she left.

If you like Billie Piper, watch Secret Diary of a Call Girl on Showtime, you get to see her naked...

I'd start right at the "beginning" with Chris Ecclestone, though David Tennant is my favorite doctor. The plot arc for the first couple seasons is good stuff.
The production quality goes way up as you progress so it might look a little cheesy those first couple seasons. Nowhere near as cheesy as it looks when you go back and look at the stuff before '05, though. But man, there's some good stuff back there, too. Tom Baker is the doctor of my rerun-watching youth. There's a reason the show has been on the air since the early '60's.
If you just want to pick a few episodes, "The Girl in the Fireplace" and "Blink" stand alone pretty well. Blink is nightmare inducing stuff.

Follow Blink with "Time of the Angels"...more of the weeping angels, plus River Song.

I've watched for at least 30 years or more. I started in the Tom Baker era, but do really enjoy the current stuff too.

Absolutely 'blink' has it. I got my folks hooked by making em siddown and watching that one episode. It needs no background, it needs no leadup, it's prolly the best timetravel story I've seen or heard anywhere. And there are parts that will creep you the berkley out...

AAaggghhhhhhhh the bain of my existence. The number of people who think because I'm a Brit I must like that douchbag is amazing. If I could vote for one celebrity never having existed I think he would be the one.
OK, here's my top few since the re-launch
Season 1 episodes 9 and 10. The empty child and The Doctor dances, a two parter. This is the famous one with the gas masks. Warning, this one frightened a lot of children when it first aired, so be carful if you have kids younger than 10. This story also introduced the character of Jack Harkness who would then appear in several Dr Who episodes and form the core of the great Torchwood series.
Season 2 episode 2. Tooth and Claw Season. Great story of royalty and werewolves, this also explains the origins of Torchwood.
Series 3 episodes 8&9 Human nature and The family of blood. A great two parter where the Doctor isn't really himself. A really good look at morals and racism as well.
Series 3 episode 10. Blink, has been referred to several times a great horror story
Those are my favorites to date. Martha Jones is one of my favorite assistance. While she may not be as cute as Amy Pond, she's damn close and appears in 3 of my favorite episodes.
