All the talk about the Pope's visit to the U.S. just has me singing this to myself all morning.
We're having fun with it in Philly. Yeah... traffic will be a mess for a few days. The regional train service is running a restricted schedule and selling passes into Philly via a lottery system which is totally sold-out. Maybe - just maybe - SEPTA will actually make some money this weekend. They sure could use it... Whatever... not the end of the world. I don't plan on leaving my house. In the unlikely event I do decide to go down there I'll ride a bike...
my cousin in a deacon based out of western, MD and was selected to serve him during the trip which is quite cool. I asked him to put in a good word for me.
I'm about as anti-religion as they get, and even I have to admit that this guy is pretty cool. I like his style and the fact that he walks the walk. I'm with the President: no way that I agree with him on everything, but I like the guy.
In reply to pinchvalve:
Agreed. I have respect for him walking the walk and being consistent and well reasoned with his philosophy. Doubly so with his respect for people with different philosophies.
He does seem like a sincere person, I like him for that even if I don't necessarily agree with his proposed solutions. I wonder what he we say to Congress. If he sticks to his guns shouldn't he lecture them on being the worlds single biggest purveyor of death and destruction? He could have pointed out that our President maintains a kill list where he picks who gets executed each week, but instead praised him for efforts with respect to climate change. Even the Pope has to pick his battles I suppose.
I love the coincidences people can come up with when you look for correlation and ignore causation. That being said, I wouldn't be surprised to see the pattern hold true this time as well.
I love some Tom Lehrer.
The news radio stations here are playing constant updates about The problems he's going to cause traffic wise. They never mention that 170 heads of state are also here for the UN General Assembly causing all kinds of traffic havoc like they do every fall. All told the Pope visiting isn't going to be much worse the a Presidental visit. It's just part of living in a big city.
I am glad he's coming here before Philly. They've already killed HitchBot and booed Santa. I hate to think of what could happen to the Pope.
I was looking for an "appropriate" photo of the pope mobile but while googling I stumbled on this. Completely irrelevant to this thread but at least it is a "Pope"
Ohhh and I played "new math" to my 10 year old son the other day and he busted a gut laughing and has been humming it on and off for several days.
....you must make love to a beautiful woman. ...it was signed; the mafia.....I do it but I have 4 requirements........1. She must be blind....
I'm in DC right now for work. It has been crazy here. So crazy most govt agencies pretty much told everyone to telework. Because the Metro was supposed to be busy, and delayed, I opted to ride my pedal bike into the DC from VA two days this week.
If nothing else, his visit caused me to get up off my lazy butt and on the bike and ride. Which in itself has turned out to be really cool experience.
The Pope did tell the world's largest arms dealers to stop selling arms just for profits and they gave him a standing ovation. I don't think that means we will stop going about the world droning people for freedom or giving weapons to the Saudis or Israel so they can kill people with them. I'm guess the brainiacs we elected assumed the Pope only meant the 'bad guys' should stop selling arms. So, even though he was polite about it, he did come in and tell them to shape up, but since the admonishment went right over their heads I don't think it was all that effective of a message though.

If everybody beats their guns into plowshares, fine. But the bad guys won't and our brainiacs know that.
In reply to T.J.:
The pope also said you cannot sell arms and call yourself a christian while the Vatican is the largest shareholder in Beretta.
