That really looked like it was 2x speed to me. The driver's hand movements to the shifter and the tone of the engine, really sounded like it was more than single speed.
Watch his hands more closely and actually see how long it takes him to complete a shift. Seems like pretty normal speed.
I think what we're seeing is just low quality vid with a lower frame rate, and so the shifts and other inputs look jerky-quick.
Racecar Engineering has been running a series of articles on these cars - IIRC, less than 1000 lbs, around 600 hp, F1-level aero at the lower speeds encountered in hillclimbs. Wow!
When my wife and I were in Scotland last summer, the tour group stopped at the top of a hill to tell us some of the history of the area. At the end of the spiel, she mentioned that the narrow road up the hill was called rest-and-be-thankful. When I asked itf this was the famous hillclimb course she sort of looked confused and said that she had heard that there was some kind of car event held there but didn't know much about it. Boy was it a narrow road.
it would be interesting to see one of those running around Monaco, or killing it in A-Mod competition at the autoX nationals
