Mini still makes a 2-door hatchback, or a 3-door if you like. With the relativly recent demise of the Civic Coupe and the Veloster (ok, it was technically a 4-door) we have lost all of our other 2-door hatchbacks. Pour one out for a body style that used to be everywhere.
Square foot emissions killed off many.
Nobody's more disappointed than me about it. The majority of my life I've driven compact pickups, and 2dr hatches. Neither exist anymore

Fiat is hanging on by a thread with the 500e
If you want a MINI with a manual transmission, get to a dealer now. I'm not 100% sure when the window to get one closes, but it's soon.

Unfortunately, someone who wants a new Mini with a manual might be out of luck. Production ends this month. Execs encouraged people to put in orders in January at the latest. However, if you really want one, yes, get to a dealer now.

It would've been a good idea to make the rule more lenient on smaller footprints and stricter on bigger ones to avoid killing off 2dr hatches while letting giant pickups and SUVs off the hook.
I might regret posting this but...
I don't think two-door hatchbacks solve any problems. The doors are big and annoying to open in tight parking lots, and access to the back seat sucks. If you're going to have a fast, impractical coupe, what's with the heavy hatch? And if you're going to have a practical hatch, what's with the impractical lack of rear doors?
(and for the purposes of this thread, a CRX is not a hatchback. It's a liftback. Two door liftbacks are perfect.)
I have lived with a few two-door hatches–CRX, EG, 318ti, AE86, A1 GTI, 240SX, Minis, etc., etc.–and would do so again in a hot minute. :)
Also, back in the time period, that was the standard. You want a small performance car with a real roof? Three doors for you.

Two relatively opposite but related new options for 2 door hatch
Counterpoint
Literally zero issues with this.

Well if you have similar emissions from a similar powerplant but one is way bigger than the other, the company can tout being "green", "Look at how much this big vehicle doesn't pollute unlike my competitors much smaller vehicle!" It's just government appeasing in the end.

Most vehicles are single occupant, though.
You should see all the big SUVs that I see that are so full of "car crap" that accepting a passenger in any seat would be a monumental task.

My daily from the second half of high school through the first half of college...just replacing the live axle with an IRS and installing EFI would result in this 45 year old car flying off the new car lots today.
@ JG and @David Wallens.....next time you're in an in-person staff meeting slap Tom for me, please. Thank you.
I think its hatches in general.
I want a 4 door manual hatch and the choices are slim.

I see no new car purchases ever after 2024. Government stupidity as well as supposed what people want analysts have killed the car market. That and the stupidly greedy manufactures price points. Hopefully I'm dead and buried before it goes to full retard mod. Sorry I don't like to use that word but I can't find anything comparable to explain it. Well WOKE could be the new word for that come to think of it. Which is kind of sad as I feel like I'm a pretty open person when it comes to ones preference of partners.
I see the electric/gas Hybrid as the only real solution to the supposed climate problem. I'm not saying we don't have a climate issue I just don't feel we are getting the whole truth about how science has figured out how to fix it.
Whoops I think I got off track on that one. Sorry.
Welcome aboard!
Given that you're new and no offense but you sound a little BOT'y would you mind answering a simple question...
Your mother and your girlfriend have swapped bodies, in order to cure them you have to have sex with one of them. Which one do you choose to have sex with?
Thank you in advance for your answer.
Edit.
It looks like you've been a member since 2008 but just don't post often...no offense intended, just a fun question and I see that you're an electrician...of all the things I'm not good at but wish I was, electrician is high on the list.
310GX, 200SX......those were the days...okay maybe not the 310GX....

Did someone say "two door hatchback"?
The bride and I would like to buy one more new car in the next year or two, but what we want just isn't being built anymore - we currently have a 2014 Allroad. She wants another wagon but they're so few around and they're massively expensive. I think she could do easily with an electric, but she's not having that at all.
I'm happy with my MINI and Minis, but would love to buy a slick2 dr, 4cyl turbo pickup, but that ain't happening either!

Congratulations, now I'm scared to sleep tonight due to your Freud/Oedipous nightmare of a question.
I'll grant that the footprint method of CAFE determination has had some bad market impacts. It isn't just the 2door hatchback, the sedan is starting to be headed that way as well in market trends (aside from the more lux end of the market). Everything is going towards crossover SUVs. (Many chasing the CAFE definition of MPV for fuel economy concessions). 2 door vehicles in general are pretty much defunct outside of cars with sporting pretentions.
I get the doomsday feeling:
But, what we lose, we get in other areas. We have multiple EVs on the market with 1000hp, which is just silly, and tech is always advancing and becoming cheaper. Signs are that the EV acceptance has about been saturated for now and hybrids are set to be more focused. Remember that even formula 1 has been hybrid for years now, so sporting pretentions survive.
Also; we made it through the 70's bloat and came out the other side. We are poised for hybrid and battery tech to focus on weight reduction soon, which could give interesting market trend for products with sporting pretentions.
At least smaller pickups are seeing some revival. Granted, not quite mini trucks, but I would call them "reasonable sized".
