At 6'-5" tall I don't fit well in small cars. Sadly, Miata is not the answer. Neither is C5 or newer Corvette. At 48 years old, I'm jonesing for something with a large helping of power. But I also like small car efficiency.
So, dear hive.. what large, large engine'd vehicle gets surprisingly good fuel economy?
Most of the v8 pony cars get 24-26 mpg on the highway. Closer to 20 combined though.
You wouldn't get the big engine rumble, but a Tesla might scratch the torquey performance itch too.
At work I drive a diesel Ram 3500 that gets better mileage than my station wagon. It’s got plenty of power and the engine is definitely large.
Somehow I don’t think that’s what you’re thinking though.
Electric is a damn good idea. Sound will be very disappointing but all the torque would be great.
Audi A5 with the 2.0T gets 30 mpg and still makes good power.
Tesla gets infinity miles to the gallon.
Porsche Boxster S or 911 get great miles for the power to weight. Lots of room in the Boxster.

I always wanted a full size truck. Then I got one.. and found out I didn't really "need" it. Nor like it.
Lately I'm more interested in heated seats with memory settings, stuff that grown up vehicles seem to have that I never realized I would like. I've just never had a vehicle with a proper GO pedal.

BIL has a Carerra4 and I can borrow anytime. Sadly, I just don't fit in it. Is it possible that a Boxster has more room?

Boxster has a lot more room. Same platform, no back seats. Also no roof. My codriver is 6'4" 260 and has tons of room in my 986.
Jaguar F-Types with the supercharged V6 make nice noises, look the business, and are rated at 28mpg hwy, 23 combined. They drink premium though...

If you're thinking ecoboost, you want a Lincoln MKZ with the 400hp 3.0t engine/awd combo.
Its based on the Fusion chassis which is classed as a smaller car than the Taurus, but many who have sat in both say that the interior feels larger in the smaller car. With the Lincoln, you'd get 35 more HP and better fuel economy than the SHO in a smaller package. 26hwy/20combined for the MKZ and 24hwy/19 combined for the SHO.
1300cc. 205hp. 420lbs, wet. 178mph top speed. 10.41 in the quarter mile. 35 mpg combined. So, tell me, is it the new Blues Mobile, or what?
Lexus GS450h? 29mpg city / 34 highway, 0-60 in the low 5s, 1/4 mile in the high 13s. ALL the toys per typical Lexus. Decent handling for such a heavy car. (4100lbs?)

Lots of seemingly "big" cars are small inside.
I wouldn't say it's powerful but the 84 Caprice I have gets over 30 easily.
5.7 Charger. I did a lot of highway miles with one and the cylinder deactivation witchcraft/magic gave great highway economy.

170hp, nearly 300 tq. 30+mpg
The Volvos we have get low 20s in town, around 30 on the highway, and both make over 250 hp out of 2 liters. My wagon makes about 315 hp.
C5 Corvette gets about 30 MPG
The answer here is a Lexus GS Hybrid
