I live in the greater Vancouver area, so I have a bit of feedback. Regarding food, Asian cuisine is huge here, so there are many places to get good Chinese/Japanese/Thai/Vietnamese food. Richmond (neighboring city to Vancouver) has a very large Asian population, so you can find a lot of authentic Chinese restaurants there.
We have had a fantastic summer weather-wise, but it looks like this weekend might be the exception. Current forecast calls for rain from Friday to Monday. Too bad, since there are so many great outdoor activities to do around here. Do a Google image search for views at the top of The Chief hike in Squamish (between Vancouver and Whistler)
My in-laws live in Victoria, so we go there a few times a year. Downtown Victoria is pretty touristy, but you might like it better up Island. Parksville is pretty nice.
