I'm old, and so is my kitchen. I want to add roll-out bottom shelves to the base cabinets. I assume there are kits available to do this? Any specific tips / tricks / tools I'll need / things to beware?

Put a lip around the shelf, so stuff doesn't fall off the back when you pull it out. Other than that, they're brilliant, and make the lower shelves way more useful. Don't cheap out on the drawer glide hardware - you want to be able to load the shelf up without worrying about the weight.
I'll second the comment about the slides. There are a million different slides out there and most of them are hot garbage. I don't think you want the soft-close ones because the drawer will hang for a moment and get caught up in the door closing. But you want the heaviest, smoothest, most ball bearingist full extention slides that you can get your hands on.
Did this at the wife's insistence some years ago. No idea where the kits came from--ordered online. Good quality, have worked fine for years. I'm not entirely sold on the concept, but it does make it easier to access the stuff way at the back. If your lower cabinet is currently packed to the gills, be prepared to lose some storage space overall. In other words, it's time to throw out the stuff in there that you never use.
