Funny thing: during the 1980-88 Iraq/Iran war, the Israelis are supposed to have sold US made weapons to the Iranians. During the same time period, we sold arms to the Iraqis and the Israelis. The Israeli attack on the Osirisk nuke plant was in 1981. The French government sold Iraq the nuke plant. German companies built hardened underground buildings in both countries during that war.

Talk about a tangled web.

Allegedly, at the outbreak of WWII trains running north from France to Germany loaded with food etc passed the German trains and troops headed south for the invasion at the Maignot Line.

Any conflict involving multiple middle-eastern nations will necessarily draw in most of the wolrd powers. As much as the rest of the world loves to think of the middle east as the world's trash bin, everyone has ties there whether through resources or diplomacy. With the world's finances in the tank, and resources growing more scarce everyday, it'll evolve into a world conflict if it lasts more than a few months -- especially if Israel is involved.

I am sorry but it is true. I use to eat KFC with no issues but man oh man the last couple times (like I said over 5 years) it just tore me up.

Does anyone have any good solid news feeds online for the stuff going on over there? I am piecing things together right now from different sources but nothing great. With no TV right now I don't have the option of just tuning into whatever channel.

I'm streaming CNN through my phone and posting via tablet. Its getting late there and things are quieting and getting more peaceful. The police there are still working pretty hard to keep it that way. The US embassies are not the only being protested it seems.

Yeah, my statement was tap dancing around a potentially political statement, but that was not my intent. No political baiting going on here, move along.

Their talking now about the riots being riots and the murders were calculated acts of terror. A quick interview with Senator McCain was shown as he explained that. I would have to agree with McCain.

A bunch of guys with AKs and RPGs calculated an attack to make a point. The riots are different.

On the issue of the ambassador I seem to remember them saying he was evacuated by car and then ambushed outside the safe house they were moving him to. Sure sounds like a planned attack to me. Attack the embassy in a way to cause the evacuation then wait for him to arrive at the safe house. That also means that they had to have the intel as to where the safe house locations were that would be used to stash the evacuated embassy workers.

I know you weren't; I was extrapolating on what I think an Israeli/Saudi pre-emptive attack might include. Taking-out the nuclear sites would mean little if the only means of Iran's revenue-generation remains intact.

When Iran retaliates to a strike (even one without direct US support or involvement), we, the US, would still be obligated to respond by keeping the Straits of Hormuz open. Even if Israel concentrates on the nuke sites, Iran isn't likely to ignore all the oil passing off it's coast. That, and unleashing Hamas, Hezbollah and any related organization against Israel.

Likely some coverup for national security until they can get the whole story. The president will address it in a bit and I'll be watching. I wouldn't be surprised if it was a terrorist group planned attack. More news coming now.

If Iran is eyeing that oil GOING BY, it's not because they don't have plenty of their own. Their problem is inability to refine what they have coupled with the EU embargo.

Doing a bit more digging looks like maybe that is from the Egypt riots though Fox had it in with their Libya pics earlier. There are multiple photos with individuals wearing the masks visible.

Look to the far right just above the torn American flag you can see the white mask.

2012 European Threat Alerts by John Cleese

The English are feeling the pinch in relation to recent events in the Middle East and have therefore raised their security level from "Miffed" to "Peeved." Soon, though, security levels may be raised yet again to "Irritated" or even "A Bit Cross." The English have not been "A Bit Cross" since the blitz in 1940 when tea supplies nearly ran out. Meanwhile, terrorists have been re-categorized from "Tiresome" to "A Bloody Nuisance." The last time the British issued a "Bloody Nuisance" warning level was in 1588, when threatened by the Spanish Armada.

The Scots have raised their threat level from "Pissed Off" to "Let's Get the Bastards." They don't have any other levels, and this is the reason they have been used on the front lines of the British army for the last 300 years.

The French government announced yesterday that it has raised its terror alert level from "Run" to "Hide." The only two higher levels in France are "Collaborate" and "Surrender." The rise was precipitated by a recent fire that destroyed France 's white flag factory, effectively paralyzing the country's military capability.

Italy has increased the alert level from "Shout Loudly and Excitedly" to "Elaborate Military Posturing." Two more levels remain: "Ineffective Combat Operations" and "Change Sides."

Belgians, on the other hand, are all on holiday, as usual; the only threat they are worried about is NATO pulling out of Brussels.

The Spanish are all excited to see their new submarines ready to deploy. These beautifully designed subs have glass bottoms so the new Spanish navy can get a really good look at the old Spanish navy.

Australia, meanwhile, has raised its security level from "No worries" to "She'll be alright, Mate." Two more escalation levels remain: "Crikey! I think we'll need to cancel the barbie this weekend!" and "The barbie is cancelled." So far no situation has ever warranted use of the final escalation level.

-- John Cleese - British writer, actor and tall person
