I went to the parts store to buy a length of 5/16" hardline.

He didn't realize that hard line existed.
Also, why can't they sell rubber hose?

In reply to Pete. (l33t FS) :
They can't sell rubber hose? Pretty sure I've bought some at the FLAPS in the last year... Or is this just another layer of the counterperson being confused?

Just think about how averages work for a second...to hit that number, how many people have to spend literally zero dollars per year to balance out a car guy with a racing habit?
Not to be a Debbie Downer but this country has a lot of poverty.

Being a car guy can do that.

Also, do we even believe that figure?

No. The number is crazy low. The average person spends $255 per year on toilet paper. Anybody spending that little on a hobby isn't really hobbying.
Hold up. If you spend $255 a year in toilet paper, something is insanely wrong with you.
or you have extremely luxurious TP.

I think that is the, er, rather a point. A lot of people are involved in the average but are not involved in hobbying, whether that's due to lack of interest or lack of funds.
But this conversation needs more memes. Ante up, everybody. Incidentally, when I went to find a "hobby meme" I got more decent results than I expected, and I wouldn't have thought I'd find this:

I have this pet theory that people actually like sitting in traffic because that counts as being out and therefore "doing something."
In reply to Mr_Asa :
I definitely don't. I can't even think of a hobby that costs that little to get involved in. Reading maybe, with a library card.

A good parts guy is worth his weight in gold.
Unfortunately, parts stores pay peanuts so they get monkeys.

Guys, it's a joke. You are supposed to chuckle and move on. Not analyze it to death.

At this point I'm just quoting so I don't feel left out.

I'm just here for the quotes. And breaking the forum with them.

You can spend more than that on cheap booze and cigarettes in a year. You can blow $255 in one night in a strip club. Then there is illegal drug use which is not cheap.
It all comes down to what you consider to be a 'hobby'.
