I routinely drive by the SOM Highway Patrol drivers training area. A few months ago, as we were passing by I saw a Charger perform the pit maneuver on an externally caged Crown Victoria. Very cool! Needless to say, I never miss a glance at the facility while driving by it. Two days ago I saw a lone vehicle out there - a black Mach-E with some kind of silverish/whitish livery along the side. I understand they did the tests for the Interceptor Explorers and Tauruses out there years back, does anyone know if this is their initial test on Ford's electric SUV?

All I know is that Michigan usually write to definitive test results that are then observed by most US police departments.  Said another way, Michigan State Police are typically THE definitive testing authority of police cars in North America.

The test results are published and goggling should bring up various year results.

This seems to be a traditional that started years ago given the proximity when all manufacturers were headquartered in the state.

They also test them extensively at Grattan Raceway.  A couple of times after an HPDE a car hauler with a bunch of state troopers cars on it showed up in the paddock for the next week's testing.

In reply to John Welsh :

Good find. I wonder what was up with that one I saw then.

Also, I've never looked at the Ford Pursuit vehicles the same since I heard they can take a curb at 40 mph.

There's a department near me that uses several Teslas. They started with Model 3s, but are now on to Model Ys.
