I could use some expertise in the fancy Toyota department. I'm used to dealing with trash, and this is not trash. 

A friend has a 2011? Fjc trail teams, olive green. Decent shape, hood needs repainted for sure (rock chips y'all). Has over 200k on it (does that matter?) Newer tires. Has aftermarket steel bumpers and such. He's in the tail end of a E36 M3ty divorce, and he's almost out of cash. I'm trying to bridge him til his house sale closes (should be in a few days) but he may have to move the truck to keep himself afloat. He's asked me to help him do it, because he is effectively a ghost on social media and would like to keep it that way. 

Basically, what should I be looking for with this thing? He's super close by, I can go get whatever pictures needed. We used to work together, and I can verify, while it is a used 10 year old Toyota with a bunch of miles on it, it looks pretty good. Interior isn't all beat or anything, he's just driven all over the planet. I'm hoping it doesn't come to selling it, but I'd like to be prepared. Any help would greatly be appreciated

Happy to help with non trash GRM 

First, confirm it is a TT. In 2011 FJC came in a Green regular (white roof), green TT, and a green NSSE.  TT and NSSE look very similar (photo attached) but there are lots of differences. 

 2011 TT 

• had black trim pieces and a monochromatic color scheme.
• green fabric inserts for the seats to compliment the exterior color as well as color matched door inserts.
• Rock rails, trail-tuned Bilsteins, TRD 16" alloy wheels, and BFG All-Terrains were again found on this model year.
• Toyota included the same TRD wheels in a black finish used on the 2008 TT rather than continue the beadlock style wheels.
• 2500 production unit

This model included the rear differential locker, Active Traction Control (A-TRAC), multi informational dash display, leather trimmed steering wheel, wheel locks, backup camera, rear wiper, privacy glass, and more features commonly put into other TTs. But in 2011 Toyota introduced the new JBL sound system for FJs and Trail Teams got the full treatment which featured an AM/FM/6-CD/MP3/WMA player and a whopping eleven speakers in seven locations.

NSSE "Not So Special Edition."

• In 2011 some of the first Trail Teams FJ Cruisers that left Japan were "incomplete." These models only had some of the Trail Teams Special Edition features but not everything to be a true special edition. Because these incomplete TTs made it to the US, Toyota decided to label these models as Upgrade Package 3 which sported certain 2011 TT components including the Army Green paint job for the body and roof, the black out trim pieces, the color matched interior including fabric seat inserts, and many other convenience features including the JBL sound system, cruise control, power mirrors, etc
• But what the Not So Special Edition lacked was the TRD wheels and BFG KO tires, Trail Teams badges, the TT shocks, the roof rack, floating ball multi-information display, 115V/400 watt rear AC power outlet, and rock rails.
• THere are 80 NSSE total produced

The 4.0L are very robust. 350-500k miles on these are all over the place with minimal maintenance.  Is he the original owner? THe aftermarket bumpers (depends if Chinese junk or top shelf stuff) - will determine value. 

What most of us true TT whores won't be the buyer for this (too many miles), there is a great demand for this, even at those miles. I would repaint hood (if I was to sell).  Is suspension original (if so, at those miles need replacing). Are there maintenance records?

If hood repainted, fully detailed, it will bring nice coin. FJC vary, all over. 07-09 has a VERY different value ($ wise), than the 10-12 trucks (much higher), and the 13/14 trucks (with crawl control) has out of this world value.  

Rust (in FL whwere you are shouldnt be any), what type of trans (manual has throw out bearing issues), and condition is key. Some FJC are beat to death, others are immaculately pampered. This is common in the Land Cruiser world, which is why last two FJ62 I sold fetched $60,000 and $82,000, while you can buy them $25,000 all day long as well. Like location in real estate, in the LC/FJC market condition is key.

Ok, what I know- I believe him to be the second owned. He purchased it from a dealer in... Georgia? Many moons ago. I believe it to be a real tt, not an nsse, all the indicators you've given me I seem to remember seeing in person. It's been a southern truck all it's life, south Carolina then here, so yeah, no rust. The bumpers definitely aren't Chinese junk, though they were on the truck when he purchased it so I'm not as certain as to brand. I DO believe the suspension was never replaced, I want to say all that $$$ got tied up in the house. It is an automatic, he actually doesn't know how to drive stick.....

I'll have to go and get a good look at it and take some pictures. That'll give me a better idea. 

Sounds like a great southern truck. Long term ownership + maintenance records will be very helpful. ($$$$$)

 I think you will get good value for a comparable non TT truck (due to mileage), as at a certain mileage if TT parts are worn (lots of people won't give the TT premium)

If stock suspension - should be bilsteins.

It's definitely stock, or was the last time I saw it. I know he was aware that it needed replacement, I am unsure if that ever occured. 

Hope your friend doesn't need to sell the TT, and figures out the divorce stuff. Best wishes!
