I like simple, clean, elegant cases and dials. My 2 favorites are the Hamilton Khaki Pioneer Pilot Chrono Quartz and Magrette Dual Time, have several other but those are my 2 go to watches. If I could only choose 1 watch to wear for the rest of my life it would be the Hamilton.

I love the Magrette because it's a microbrand (from New Zealand) that makes great looking watches (many Panerai inspired designs which I like), with top level lume (right there with my Lum-Tec M48 - because, go figure, same C3 Super Luminova), and robust proven movements (Miyota 9015 for the Dual Time). And it looks great on aftermarket straps.

And the watch case is an absolutely beautiful and useful leather travel case:

The Hamilton Khaki Pioneer Pilot Quartz though, has such a beautiful style that speaks to me and impeccible build quality for ~$300 I was able to find it at, and it keeps rediculously good time. Lume is the only complaint I have, not the best but still useable at least, unlike the Bulova Snorkel II diver which has the absolutely most useless lume I've ever witnessed on a watch (I really like everything else about that Bulova though, definitely would like to have a proper lume job done on it).

Just bought the Mondaine for $100 on Amazon. I might have to change 30+ years of habit by wearing the watch facing out rather than in. For the swank appeal. Nah.

How long did it take you to adjust to your Kiwi watch spinning backwards? Or is that the toilets?

How about the Stuhrling watches?

Cheap and they have the skeleton format you seem to like?

Stuhrling is on my radar. Its a good choice, but I have to weigh how much I want watch snobs to like my watch.

If a Rolex or Patek Phillippe is a Bentley, I'm looking for a BMW 7-series. The Stuhrling seems to be a nice Buick when it comes to street cred.

Or am I incorrect? I'm a noob at this stuff.

No, they're "assembled" in Detroit: http://www.complex.com/style/shinola-detroits-misguided-white-knight

They caught hell for their marketing B.S. a couple years ago.

Finally bought one. Bulova Precisionist 98B256. Retails for $850 at Jewelry shops, but Amazon shopping cut that by about 70%.

I've never understood that deep discount thing on Bulovas. Doesn't help with that lawsuit over pricing in California across all products against Amazon. Update on the Mondaine it's actually quite a slim watch and I have a small frame so it suits me. Not sure how it would look on a "burly Man". Please let us know how the Bulova quality is 'cuz I've always looked at them.

So far, hella impressed. Haven't had it long enough for commenting on reliability or internal quality, but the finish on the case is impressive - far better than the Citizens I've had.

Put it under the loupe today. Found one minuscule flaw in the bezel.

That's a lot of bucks for a watch that needs batteries.

$239 is not a lot of bucks for a watch that looks this good on my arm.

I ordered one of these Invicta 6620 II off of Amazon last Thursday. Although I don’t have Prime and I didn’t pay for expedited shipping, it still was on my doorstep at 11:00 AM on Saturday. I paid $10 to have the band sized yesterday and now it’s on my wrist.

Lots of negative reviews about the hands falling off and the return policy sucks but I love the look, it’s rated for 100 meters, and all up (including sizing) I’ve only got $87.21 into it so I decided to take a chance…”no, I didn’t have a condom but I figured, when was I going to be in Haiti again”

I've been wearing an Invicta 8926 as my daily, beater watch for 8 or 9 years now. It runs a little fast, but has been trouble free otherwise. I think I paid less than $75 for it, so I can't complain at all.

Hi DeadSkunk,

I just checked out your 8926; looks great.

Thanks for the positive data point on Invicta reliability.

That Bulova looks nice.

Currently shopping for a deal on a Tag Heuer Grand Carrera. Has to be somebody out there that needs some cash, and wants to make a deal.

If I wore a watch, it would be this one, or something similar.

Congratulations Curtis on a couple things: First, the date. Second, the watch. Both very nice. Life is good!
