I've never seen anything like it.
I went to the big orange box store to get a key made...on my way back to the middle of the ~4 acre asphalt parking lot where I was parked I heard a kitten meow, mewl really, very pathetic sounding. It was close by.
This is in South Texas at approximately 1 pm, ambient temp was probably 90, humidity was very high (as always), and the asphalt was roasting.
I squatted down and saw two tiny rear legs and tail under a Honda Civic, the poor thing was climbing into the back side of the wheel to get off the asphalt. Of course I'm wearing white pants today. I crouched and tried to grab it, hiss hiss and it ran to the back. I moved around after asking the neighboring car to not run me over (they had just gotten in their car, did they hear it? I'd like to think they didn't just ignore it) and laid on my back to reach for the little devil, nope up into the wheel and onto the upper control arm, I moved around, no way to grab it. So I tickled a leg and it crossed the rear axle to the other side. Moved over there (wow, the asphalt is burning even through clothes, no wonder the poor thing wanted off), couldn't reach anything but the tail, sorry kitty, pulled it down hoping not to break it's tail, grabbed it by the scruff of it's neck and voila!
I brought it to my daughter's house, she bathed it (lots of fleas), fed it (can eat canned food, so all/mostly weaned), and then it took a loooong nap. I've got a friend that has cats checking with the local cat rescue places etc to find it a home...
