Perhaps our city (or all) schools would be better to teach "Interactions with Police" at a younger age.
EDIT: Though I think it should be pretty obvious that you don't want to start a fight with a cop.

Wouldja look at that, a famous comedian already has a very introspective video about such situations!

Spot on. I give too much benefit of the doubt to humanity. I'd make a better Captain America and not so great of a Ultron.

Unfortunately, regardless of race, class, or education, people will still let rage, anger, or whatever else get to them, and we'll always have violent people. Does that mean they should all be put down?
Obviously a chemical LtL is a pipedream, but sounds nice, doesn't it?
Depending on the type/extent of violence they CHOOSE to use in response to their anger, absolutely. There is a massive, MASSIVE difference between the kind of person who breaks a plate on the floor or smashes their cellphone against the wall in response to anger, and someone who responds to anger by attempting to end another human being's life. The first type is someone who needs anger management help, the second is the type of person who joins ISIL. Everyone has times when anger/rage/etc "gets to them," but they still have the choice as to how they react. The ones who would kill others in response to anger over something non-life-threatening are the kind of people who have earned the consequences of their actions.
it's too bad that we can't get Bill Cosby to offer up his opinion on all of this..
if i was a tinfoil hat wearin kinda guy, i'd think that he was intentionally discredited just before the verdict was released so that he wouldn't weigh in on it and tell the black community to grow the berkeley up, pull their damn pants up, and start taking things seriously...

You'd make a terrible Captain America. Yes, he tried to see the good in people and achieve positive outcomes, but he also recognized that evil can't be negotiated with. He fought the friggin Nazis, for crying out loud.

This. There comes a time when evil and violence cannot be contained nor stopped peacefully.

Jesse Jackson did this morning though, and I've heard more sensible rants come out of 12 year olds on xbl. I'm pretty sure he was trying to incite more violence.

don't know which you're asking … but both have their age listed on their profile
Huh... that's new. Never noticed before. Well, you're too damned old for these trains of thought. Perfect for a 16-22yo though who's not experienced anything in life.

You mean I'm too old to have differing opinions from you?
Or that I can't make half-hearted references to comic book characters or dreamy ideas like chemical super-tranquilizers?
If you haven't noticed yet I've been pretty good at hanging onto my rose-colored glasses for the last 14 years on this forum.

If you wish to take it at face value, only taking this thread into consideration, yes.

If the person is attacking you in a manner which causes you to fear for your life, it will not be enough to do something "less-than-lethal" in hopes of delaying them long enough that you can change their mind about attacking you.
This is because the current LtL methods are not effective enough.
Imagine if we could develop some sort of tranquilizer that could react within seconds, and be delivered as easily and reliably as a bullet, why wouldn't would trust that? Unless of course you want to kill someone, which most people don't want to do.
I merely advocating for advancements in LtL technology that can save both lives.
The Russians tried that once.
Moscow Theater Hostage Crisis
LtL isn't fool proof as much as we'd all like for it to be. Even gunshots utilizing FMJ or hollow point rounds have issues stopping someone who is a) fairly large b) jacked up on something, that is unless you hit something really vital.

Thank you for making my point for me. At some point in life you have to wake up and realize that you're wearing rose tinted glasses. You, for some reason, haven't. Whether it be from a sheltered life, or you're still ling in mom's basement or silver spoon in your mouth I have no idea.

Came here to see what people were hearing and talk about what I've heard from my mom who lives in Ferguson <1 mile from the riots (bought my fuel pump at the burned up autozone). Not really surprised what I found.

Careful about those assumptions Bob. That sounds a lot like the name-calling we aim to avoid on this forum.

I can't say I agree with you on the timing thing, but I do believe it is an intentional attempt to discredit him because he calls the black commnuity out on so many issues. But, if this stuff is true he is one wierd dude.
PHeller wrote:

I think he means to have a Polly Anna, sort of naive view of society. Seriously, watch a documentary about people in solitary confinement, with life sentences, then realize that there are people out there in the general population that have that exact same mentality.
I've seen a person stomp another persons head until his brains were on the ground because he said hello to his girlfriend. People are animals, a large number of people didn't grow up with the same morals you or I did. Whatever moral fabric that's holding society together is very thin and weak. Underneath that facade is the ugly truth that it really is a kill or be killed world.
