As a kid I was a big fan of Ron Bouchard. He was big up here with the Modifieds and then went south to race Cup cars. There were few northerners running down there at the time so he was very popular even though he only won once.

According to multiple online reports, 1981 Talladega 500 winner Ron Bouchard has succumb to cancer at age 67. Bouchard, a native of Fitchburg, Massachusetts began his racing career at Brookline Speedway racing for his father Robert. As he progressed through the short track racing ranks, Bouchard competed at tracks such as Stafford Motor Speedway, Thompson Speedway and Waterford Speedbowl. He scored a total of 34 career Modified victories at Stafford, the 10th most victories all-time at the track. Throughout his career, Bouchard strapped in behind the wheel of some of the most legendary Modifieds to ever pound the pavement. He drove Dick Armstrong’s No. 1 to a win in the infamous Thompson 300. He also spent time racing the No. 2x for legendary car owner Bob Judkins and the famous Ol’ Blue No. 3 for Len Boehler. Bouchard began his NASCAR Winston Cup career in 1981 racing for car owner Jack Beebe. That year he scored his first and only win in the series during the prestigious Talladega 500. Bouchard will certainly be missed by many in the racing community and all of those who knew him. -By Brandon Paul, Speed51.com Editor – Twitter: @Brandon_Paul51
