Remember sometime back there was a thread about a guy shooting down a drone ?
Tonight there was a legal drama on TV about the very same thing. Well done.
The guy lost because there are no regulations.

I have a neighbor's drone stuck high on a tree on our yard since Christmas but if I shoot it the trayectory means I will hit a house.
Maybe shotgun is the answer.
the answer is... It depends.

Guy on youtube shot a drone that was hovering over his backyard while his teenaged daugter was sunbathing. Shooter got in trouble with the law for distruction of property and dicharging a firearm. We need some emp shotguns. Or dang toss fishing nets
I still say that a wrist rocket type sling shot shooting a bouncy ball with a loooong 100lb test fishing line trailer is the way to take down a quad rotor. You just have to trail the monofiliment through the rotors. No firearms, drone is splashed, and has a short enough range that you can probably argue it was too close if you could hit it with a slingshot.
OTOH if you're in the country, 12ga 8oz dove loads are really satisfying.

If it was the dude in Kentucky, the case against him was dismissed.

"I think it's credible testimony that his drone was hovering from anywhere, for two or three times over these people's property, that it was an invasion of their privacy and that they had the right to shoot this drone," Bullitt County Judge Rebecca Ward said, according to NBC affiliate WAVE.
If you look at it from a legal standpoint your property in theory goes from a finite point at the center of the earth ( “Cuius est solum, eius est usque ad coelum et ad inferos” which basically translates to: “whoever owns the soil, holds title all the way up to the heavens and down to the depths of hell“, )extending upwards to the shape of the outer perimeter of your property to approximately 80 (Causby v US, 1945) to 500 ft above the ground, or to what is allowed on property in each jurisdiction.
Over property line, less than 80 feet, you SHOULD be able to shoot it, AND charge the owner for removal and any damages done, because his property is on your land.
Or you could fish net it as said here earlier and change the frequency and have a nice new radio controlled quadcopter.
Which after reading everything that the judge said is how he ruled. Now the downside, if there are firearm discharge rules (just because you can own it doesn't mean you get to shoot it...LOL) You can still be charged with reckless discharge. So there would be two separate cases. A civil case for their drone (and possible criminal depending on peeping tom or trespassing charges and how they are written in your jurisdiction) and a separate charge for you for firearm discharge. Which is usually only dismissed in situations of life threats.
GRM fishnet rifles anyone?

The cops messed up. Thy should have charged him under, no discharging firearms in city limits instead of the other stuff.
This is why I keep a catapult and trebuchet handy...there are no ordinances banning them where I live.

I remember seeing an arrow many years ago that had a large wire "basket" on the end of it. It was used for hunting birds. I think that would work quite well.

If there is a Rural King close buy you can pick up a sweet crossbow for $20, better accuracy and probably range over a sling shot. Fit the arrows with the fishing line to catch the rotors of the drone.
And if you arent shooting down drones you still have a sweet crossbow to play with

oooh....sweet. You win. You know, if you rig this to a bowfishing spool of line you might even be able to retrieve the drone. Start mounting them to your shop wall like they do antlers.
Disappointed to see that this thread is not about mounting a weapon to a quadcopter. Think of the possibilities!
